Here's a video link to the complete game in Houston. It will show you what Banana Ball is all about:
I priced tickets for Miami in October and they're well over $200 for standing room only. You paying attention MLB?
I have seen them play twice in WPB during Spring Training. Both audiences were sold out. Both games were filled with families. A totally different atmosphere than even sold-out MLB Spring Training games. It was like stepping back into Americana. Much, much fun.
Sounds a heck of a lot more interesting and fun than MLB.
Well now, this is a new one on me. Where have I been? Oh yeah, I’ve been on THIS PLANET.
Anyone remember Max Patkin, Clown Prince of Baseball? The bananas look like a wholenother ballgame.
You have a full game link? Sweet! Thanks for that. Bookmarked for this weekend.
I’ve only ever seen clips of them- they seem like great entertainment, and (from what I’ve seen) family friendly to boot.
My favorite is the frozen tee shirt. Participants must break it open and wear it to win.
Dunno anyrhing about theses guys… did see the Savannah Sand Gnats minor league team play back when I used to cost Savannah.
My boys would’ve REALLY enjoyed this. We used to go to Madison Mallard’s baseball games in the summer months (hometown field team) and they had all kinds of crazy activities and contests for the kids to play between innings.
Good Family Fun. Good memories. :)
Yeah, I missed that boat. Never followed their schedule much the past few years. I probably missed them in Jupiter too.
Problem with this planet’s version of baseball is that it’s a stodgy slow game where players are actively discouraged from having fun which in turn discourages the fans. I’d rather this.
I am sorry, this is not baseball. I would never go to this show.
It’s not baseball. It’s Banana Ball. It’s baseball’s version of the Harlem Globetrotters, or Pete Maravich playing baseball.
That said, MLB could learn a few things here. Stepping out of the box = a strike should be the #1 thing.
The walk = sprint rule turns the most boring play into an exciting play. W/ 3 balls on the batter, the fielders are now thinking about how they are going to touch the ball to make it live while the batter runs the bases, not just playing defense.
Jeez, they played in Fenway last year.
I know it’s small...but the Red Sox are a Major League team. Kind of.
I am WRONG! They played at the Portland affiliate. They are doing Fenway this year. More interesting than any Red Sox game in a few years.
I wonder if they willl call up Big Papi?
They’re scheduled to play in Fenway THIS year. This Houston game was the first they’ve ever played in a MLB park.
Miami game is in October. Fenway game is June 8th (road trip for the Sox obviously).
Papi would be great. Wade Boggs would be great. Clemens (again) would be epic.
Bill “Space Man” Lee has pitched for the Bananas before. Another natural for Fenway.
Just for laughs…Bob Stanley. I think he is still in New England.
I’m OK with it; it’s very entertaining.
I also see baseball as having stood the test of time.
I only wish our American kids would play the game with the same fervor, passion and desperation as those kids from C.America, S.America and the islands. They really put some spark into the game; I just wish they were home-grown (that’s not xenophobic, just patriotic, I think).
I see baseball as trying really hard to kill itself. And the anti-fun unwritten rules posse and the primary killers. Don’t flip your bat. Don’t look at your hit too long. Don’t go around the bases too slow. Don’t go around the bases too fast. Don’t look at the pitcher while you go around the bases. You broke a rule last year and this is the first time you’ve played that team since so they’re gonna bean you.
Notice those Latin American players have a lot of fun. And get beaned a lot. You want American kids to play with fervor and passion? Bring fun back in the game. End all the unwritten rules with automatic substantial suspension (it’s a 162 season, no suspension under 20 games has meaning, especially for starting pitchers) for anybody doing “enforcing” them. No kid wants to play a game where having fun gets you punished.
