Go with an open source Linux and install it on your old computer. Windows is corporate bloatware and your older hardware will run much better on linux. If you are somewhat technical and can install it yourself. Take a look at Linux Mint. It is supposed to be easy to install and comes preloaded with a lot of applications that are also open source.
