Ammonium sulfate aka diammonium sulfate is commonly used as a quick coin toner. It gives silver a rainbow blue, yellow, golden color. It's sold on ebay as coin toner in small 1ml glass vials. Does your son perhaps collect coins? cc

Assuming you could keep anyone near it long enough to get a lethal dose.

People are killed by H2S in the oil field all the time, just two months ago two men died while servicing a tank battery. I just did a well where the rig hands had to work with air packs and air lines, it took three days to control the gas.

H2S + H2O = H2SO4

WRONG

SO3 + H2O = H2SO4

The sulfur in hydrogen sulfide has a valence of -2, while the sulfur in sulfur trioxide or in sulfuric acid has a valence of +6. You should have learned that in Chemistry 100.

SO2 + H2O = H2SO4

WRONG AGAIN

SO2 + H2O = H2SO3

sulfur dioxide + water = sulfurous acid (not sulfuric)

2SO2 + O2 = 2SO3

sulfur dioxide + oxygen = sulfur trioxide

SO3 + H2O = H2SO4

sulfur trioxide + water = sulfuric acid

What is your problem? I hereby apologize for not being a master chemist. Okay?
Geez! This thread is 4 years old.
Did I do something to upset you?

and provide synthetic flavors.

What would these flavors be? Rotten eggs and sewer gas or not on my top ten flavors.

Rotten eggs top 50 maybe.

Sorry! I did not mean to insult you. I just wanted you to have the facts straight.

I majored in chemistry in college, but I haven't used it in years. Thanks for the opportunity to use that old knowledge again.

I majored in chemistry in college, but I haven't used it in years......

I see. Well, that explains it then. I wish I had studied more chemistry myself. It had always been an interesting subject in my opinion.

I'm not insulted. I just couldn't understand your interest in this old thread.
But
You explained it all. Have a good evening.

I would guess that the kids want it to stink things up Practical Jokes

H2S can also be made by the hydrolysis of ferrous sulfide.

I was a Bad Kid. Got it into the potted plants in the administrative offices.

Someone watered the plants, and ....

I visited Ground Zero some hours later. The office staff was too well-bred to react...They suffered in the stench, making accusatory sidelong glances at each other.

Hello,
This 17 year old of your neighbor, is he mischievous? I mean, he can't be wanting to develop photos in secret? I doubt he wants to make a bomb... although Ammonium sulfide is flammable, it won't explode like a hydrogen bomb or a uranium bomb...

Ammonium sulfide is most effective when it is bottled up in a bottle the size of your first two pinky finger joints. You use this as a stink bomb. He/she may be trying to make a large stink bomb.
