I'm not a wealthy man. I work 50 hours a week. I'm not in IT, I don't have an office, but I have a 12 foot long table where I help my employer make millions of dollars. I deal in volume. I make things happen. Me and 3 other dedicated people who are over worked but highly appreciated. I pay for my own healthcare, comes right off the top of my paycheck. My employer recognizes assets, and rewards them handsomely. Maybe not twice a month when my palm is crossed with pieces of gold and silver, but I know. I work to achieve for myself, and myself alone. That I get paid is just gravy...well, it's very well-compensated gravy, and boy does it taste good...
I have never been fired from a job my entire life. I have never been on unemployment. And this is in no way a shot at anyone who HAS been. I guess for me, I've always been willing to work. I understand that folks sometimes need help to get back on their feet, but that's just not in my nature. I feel, i don't know, wrong, if I'm not working. I'm not a bright man, but my pops always told me that no matter how down he was, a job, any job, always helped him keep his self-respect.
So....I work. I work hard. I live within my means. I try to set an example for the poor. That they should perservere and one day realize that nowhere else on this planet can you start a business in your garage and then become the president of Apple Inc.....If you want to...if you want to bad enough....
I can tell you how to succeed in the 21st century in three words:
'Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.'
Just don't expect me to pay for it. Because one day, all us Randian capitalists, will just let everyone go down in flames. One day, we will say "enough". And you will have have to find another way to pay for your socialist utopia. I, and many others like me are planning our escape routes. We will not be your hostages. We will drop out, in your best 60's tradition. Except instead of sawing fiddles, we'll be mangling and strangling guitars, and we'll all be playing Zappa tunes....
