Veterinarians, fellow mushers honor Plettner

Vets voted Plettner the winner of the Alaska Airlines Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award given to the musher "who has best demonstrated outstanding care of his or her team throughout the race while remaining competitive."

Mushers honored Plettner with the World Communication Center Most Improved Musher Award for finally cracking the Iditarod's top 20 after nine years of competition. Her best previous finish was 29th in 1994. She sat out the race last year after finishing 66th in Iditarod 2000.
