I am an insightful linguist too. Maybe that is why we understand each other so well. Actually it seems to be scaled in much the same way as standardized IQ tests in which case anything over 110 is considered above average. Average is 90-110. 70-90 is below average and anything below that is a democrat.

IN THE EARLY DAYS OF LEMHI COUNTY, from the August 1, 2002, issue of The Recorder Herald.

50 Years Ago - 1952
* Mrs. Oren Sassman, Salmon high school home economics instructor, died Sunday night in a Fosston, Minnesota hospital from complications resulting from burns suffered Friday, it was reported here this week. Mrs. Sassman, wife of the grade school principal here, was severely burned in an explosion of a can of kerosene in the home of her father, O.A. salom in Erskine, Minnesota.
* Lemhi County Fair Set for Sept. 19, 20, 21.
* A meeting of residents on the upper Panther creek - Silver creek - Morgan creek areas is behing held today at the Cooper creek ranger station to see if they want to take over and continue the use of forest service telephone lines in the region.

60 Years Ago - 1942
* After suffering two straight defeats at the hands of the Havemann hardware team, the worm turned Monday night and the Elks won over the hardwares by a score of 5 to 4. The game was played to a large crowd.
* The swimming pool at the Island will be ready by Thursday, it is expected. A crew of city workmen is putting in the dam near the bridge and have it almost completed. Mayor Fred Viel and the city council agtreed that the city would take care fo the dam building expenses.
* Carl Kriley and sons of Shoup are employed building fence on the Emmett Reese ranch on Pine creek.

70 Years Ago - 1932
* Harry Summers has opened an office in the building formerly occupied by the Coffee Shop. He will handle real estate, insurance, mining deals and will also do auctioneering on the side. He is open for business this week.
* Abraham Reed, well known mining man of Mackay, passed away August 1 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Theo Gautier on Carmen creek. He was 83 years of age and was born in Richmond, Virginia, October 6, 1848. For the past fifty years, he has made his home at Mackay where he followed mining.

80 years Ago - 1922
* Assistant District Forester Simpson of the Ogden headquarters has been making the rounds of the Salmon forests for the past three weeks with Supervisor Scribner. One day last week they were over at the head of Clear creek where they came upon mother bear with her family out for an airing and a stroll in the gloaming of a thick forest where the visitors were laying out the course of a new trail. Mr. Scribner was leadintg a pack train at the time, and the mother followed him to find out what it all meant. As for himself, Mr. Scribner deemed it wise to set up no argument about rights of way or anything else just then.

90 Years Ago - 1912
* Mr. Walter G. Mackey and Miss Edith Snodgrass, both residing near this city were quietly married Thursday, July 25, Rev. R.R.L. Barnstable officiating.
* George Beach, who is grading and terracing the schoolhouse grounds, was accidently hurt Monday, being hit by a plow on the left foot, badly spraining that member. He is limping some but is still in the ring with both feet.
* Warden J.W. Snook of the state penitentiary came home to cast his little old vote, and incidentally to look after his ranch interests near Baker. He is a record beater in his office, the best warden the pen ever had.

100 years Ago - 1902
* S.A. Myers was arrested on Monday on complaint of N.I. Andrews for allowing stock to run at large in the village in violation of ordinance. He was brought before Judge Steel and fined $9.55. This is the first prosecution under the ordinance and it will no doubt be the means of relieving the people of the nuisance committed by stock, for the owners will see that they are taken care of or suffer the consequences.
* Sheriff Hughes left yesterday for the mouth of Blackbird creek armed with a warrant for the arrest of Oren Hamp, on complaint of M.D. Maloney on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder. In an altercation Maloney was beaten over the head by Hamp with a rifle.

110 years Ago - 1892
* Missing.

* * * * * * * * * *

Here it is, fellas...

Regarding the swimming pool from 60 years Ago, I believe they actually dammed off or diverted a part of the Salmon River to make a swimming pool.....Cuttn, can you correct me if I'm wrong--the only Island I'm aware of is by the bridge on Main Street. In today's world, they are working to get the funding to have a public swimming pool--I believe with indoor capabilities--so it can be used in winter.

And 80 Years Ago, that fella showed remarkablely good sense in not 'debating' with a Momma Bear!!

And 100 Years Ago, folks were still using guns to hurt other people!!! Even if it wasn't conventional usage! Here she is, loddy.

Hiya Lady Lynn.....

Yes....matter of fact, right here at Free Republic.

Hopefully, JimRob will exert a bit of his judgement on that of the friggin idiot and it will be all done.

I have a problem with liars, Lynn. My kid brother was one of the best....and then the Perverted Prez made me realize the kid was an amateur!!

Lying hurts innocent people often enough....I have no use for liars....I love my kid brother because he is family....but, sadly, I have no use for him....you can't trust him to ever tell the truth--and who knows, someday the truth will be told, but he won't be believed because of all the past lies.

Why can't prevaricators realize one lie needs another needs another and another til their whole life is just a bunch of lies.

Even more.....why is it necessary to hurt someone in order to make yourself seem more important? Cripes, I feel bad when I unintentionally or unknowingly hurt someone and find out down the road--so to intentionally hurt someone--I just don't get it.

LOL, girl.....I do like your 'categorization' of intellect! :)

I don't mind being average, or even a little below, but gawd, I'd be in a world of hurt if I qualified as a "democrat".....teheeeheeee.

I like portions of The Recorder Herald....and actually, for it being a weekly, it is better than nothing, I guess. They really, really, really do need to get some proofreaders, or at least one.

Some of the gaffes they make make Mo look like she won the spelling bee!! *grin*

Sweet.....I'm sure the Ratty One is not a stalker. Surely to goodness, if a woman tells him "NO", he accepts that and looks for new prey acquaintances. :)
