Actually, if I were able to demonstrate a successful cold fusion device, the LAST thing I'd do is patent the sucker.

Those who have river front property can sometimes set up a mill too. Same idea. I believe there are natural sources of energy that when understood will one day provide caparitively free energy to everyone.

If it is free energy, then why are there not mills everywhere?

Energy is the gold of the modern era and free energy unfortunately is as fake as the philosopher's stone.

There used to be up in New England before electricity. Water power powered the factories via belts....systems of belts. There were many factories on the rivers especially textile factories. In fact these factories were called mills. The town they were in was called a mill town.

a non-demanding public

A public that does NOT want something for nothing?

What population is this guy talking about?
Actually, what PLANET is this guy talking about?

There is only one way that could happen if you could find a way to harness vacuum energy then you'd have a free energy source.

The problem is that when you do the math, you're getting about 1% of the energy released by an equivalent volume of lead-acid batteries.

Hydro-electric power and hydro power that ran the mills is free for the taking. But it doesn't come from nowhere. The sun had to evaporate the water and the earth's weather had to deposit it at a higher elevation so it it could run down hill to the ocean. Or sometimes to a sea or a lake.

Although you are probably correct about most of these,
cold fusion works and is NOT perpetual motion or "free energy".
The energy comes from the collapse of an excited helium nucleus.

A recent Navy report rconfirms cold fusion. UK magazines covered this,
such as the Times on 6/2/02. It was not covered in the US.

One report is is here.

There is no such thing as a 100% efficient motor.

Thank you. This article is so full of BS it's laughable.

He left out geothermal heat pumps for heating and air conditioning buildings. I just installed one in my house and it works great. It works like a regular heat pump except, instead of using a finned heat exchanger trying to cool freon with hot air on a 106 degree day it uses either water or a loop of coolant in an underground pipe. The ground is relatively cool in the summer (about 55 degrees f) and likewise, relatively warm in the winter. The system simply reverses itself in the winter for heating. In the heat cycle, the air comes out of the ducts at about 115 degrees, About 50 degrees in ac mode. The ground loop kicks the efficiency way up from an old fashioned air to freon heat exchanger. The heat/cool in the earth is free. All I pay for is the energy needed to condense it and get it into my house. My C.O.P. is better than 3 and it makes free hot water in the summer time.

What, the magnetic moments of the protons being aligned? How does the nucleus get excited in the first place?

Is that 6 February 2002, or 2 June 2002? ;-). I want to look later on (3 AM not good!) at that. Thanks for the link.

He forgot to mention the one real great source of untapped energy: put a hyper-active two-year-old in a 'hamster-style wheel', hook it up to a generator, and power half of Los Angeles.

Anytime someone offers me something for nothing I grab my wallet and hold onto it real tight. Then I tell them to get lost.

In the lobby of my oil company's office building, we have the famous carburetor that gets 700 miles to the gallon of gasoline. We bought the patent for $500 in 1967.

We have it behind a plexiglass enclosure, and have armed guards, of course.

The employees all snicker with an evil grin as they pass by each day. It's a real morale-booster.
