The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

So sending the care packages, even little ones, small "tokens of appreciation" help the guys alot, but encourage them more than anything.

YOu can say that again. Here, let me help, I'll do it for you again.

Here is what the recipe says...

"I should mention that with most beers, the beer taste doesn’t transfer to the meat. Its purpose is to keep the chicken breast from drying out."

I printed out the email that mentions the Arby's sauce. I am getting hungry. I think I'm going to go down to the Arby's, buy some supper and show the manager the email and ask if he will give me another sack full.

Go for it, Sis! Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained!

Tell him if he does, you'll tell all your friends what a great Arby's he has!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

This is a wonderful site. You can't imagine my joy in finding Freepers who love "Rings". It has been a blessing!

Our family will also keep the Service Man in Iraq in our prayers. The package you sent was very kind. Give him our heart felt thanks for his labor in defending our country.

Also a blessing to find fellow Texans here and a Oklahoma neighbor from up the road. I'm from around the Houston area....which explains why I'm INSIDE on the internet in July. Although the rain has helped to break up the heat.

Anyway thanks for the welcome, I am honored.

I'm from up north, near Bush (not the ranch, the airport). Do you all ever get together for any "Rings" events such as...the premier of ROTK, ect.? We have been on the edge of our internet chairs hearing about the on-going adventures of Flat Frodo.

Wow.... No kiddng! Fascinating!

We have gathered in small groups of folk that happened to be near to each other so far, mini-moots, we like to call them! and we have a major gathering, Entmoot, planned for the first part of January near Orlando Florida....

I tried to get them together for the premier, but they all let their families and Christmas and such interfere.

I HAVE A SACK FULL OF ARBY'S SAUCE!!!!!

YEA!!!

ARBY'S IS GREAT!

There wasn't a manager there. So, I asked who the supervisor was, by then all 7 employees are gathered around 'cause I'm sure they think somebody's getting in trouble even though I said I wanna ask a favor.

So, I explained the deal to the lady. Showed her the email AND the snail mail so she'd know he shares with the whole platoon. And she started shoving handfuls of sauce packets in the sack. 3 employees were in tears and they were all talking at once telling me to tell Tom how much they appreciate the guys and how much they think of them.

It was cool!!! I'm gonna write Arby's and compliment 'em.

The movies do come out at a busy time. I have a daughter in college near L.A. who comes home for Christmas, so it gets busy. She and my oldest daughter are also into "Rings" as well, so we manage to get to the theatre at least 9 or 10 times before the end of the "season".

The January gathering sounds fun, but I don't know when my daughter will be returning to California. Please keep me up on it though. Maybe it would work out.

Yeah - if you hang around much, you'll hear us talking about it! - and as time goes by you will know better whether you would risk such an adventure to hang out with the likes of us!

That is wonderful!! How absolutely wonderful!

It seems I'm on my own tonight for the first time since I've been married. Completely on my own...all night.

And it almost didn't happen...

This morning I took my son over to my mom's and he was going to play with her neighbors. (Josh went too...this is Matthew, the eldest that I'm talking about). Anyway, I was gonna clean around the house, spiff up the car and pack things for an overnight trip to the ballpark for the boys and Steve! They go see a game, then after the game they all go to bed in the park, on the field, in tents.

So my mom calls me about 30 minutes later...come get the boys, Matthew is vomiting. So I rush over there and in my haste, got out of the car with it running, locked it and slammed the door.

Sigh.

So my mom had to run me back home to get another set of car keys and the house is locked up solid. Except for the bathroom window which is over the tub. Way up. So I cut the screen, lifted the window and crawled gracefully (NOT!) through the little tiny window, feeling slightly pudgier than usual. At one point I was nearly doing the splits trying to reach the side of the tub with my foot.

But I got in.

Got the spare keys, ran out and got to my mom's, got the boys in the car and rushed back home. Matthew went back to sleep in a cool bed for 2 hours and then woke up good as new! He's eating an admittedly bland diet (but he does that anyway) and tolerating it ok. I think he got overheated.

Anyway, it looked like he wouldn't be going to the ballgame/overnight campout...but I think he's gonna get to go. He's running around like nothing was ever wrong with him.

My first night, since I've been married, all alone.
