The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

No. I don't think so. If you want to send money do it any way you want. I just have paypal to send to winmag.

Do you think Hair really got asked out by a guy? Or do you think it's Ramius or her dad? Or a girlfriend? Or backgammon again? She didn't answer me.

Now that would be unseemly! No it wouldn't. You just don't want us to know that you and Bay are fixin' to go on your walk around the pasture and that this came about because Bay came to the window and summoned you.

Winmag, I hope you don't mind that I asked this. Or the way I asked. I really appreciate ALL that you do and I know your heart is really in it. Thanks.Actually, I'm indebted to the great presentation you made. This is a large project, and you've launched it nicely.
Let me say I'm not made out of money, but I wanted to do something good for everybody in Tom's platoon. BTW, I'm reading some of his comments for the first time here, too. Anyway, I had a very, very, VERY good week on eBay last week. I had a large chuck of change burning a hole in my pocket.
Then today I got a sales catalog from Smokey Mountain Knife Works (a favorite money sink of mine), and saw the magic words "DISCONTINUED! Regular $49.99 for $16.99." This was not St-Paul-on-the-road-to-Damascus, but I can take a hint. I'll still have some profit left over. But anybody who wants "a piece of the action" is welcome, and have my gratitude, along with the gratitude of some deserving ground pounders.
I ordered 26 knives, half with plain blades, half serrated. I'm keeping one as a souvenir, and WN is getting one for all her hard word. The rest will somehow magically arrive in Iraq.
The knife is quite nice, but the tanto point is sometimes frowned upon by cops. The steel is medium-to-high-quality Japanese AUS6M, and the design is simple, compact, and sturdy. I hope we can engave something appropriate on the knife before shipping.

If you're interested in more details, go to www.eknifeworks.com, and do a search on their stock number CR5710. Or freepmail me, so we don't clutter this up with knife neep.
Thank you all, I know that everybody will do whatever they can, and even a contribution of a buck will help get these to the guys who appreciate them. Poagie bait is great, but a knife is a tool.

Thanks for the accurate description winmag. That is a lot plainer about the product than I could get.
I just want to share from my perspective about this, I am really touched that so many of ya'll just jumped right in. More and more as I talk with my s-i-l in email I am aware that every little tool he gets can save his life. His life is VERY VERY DEAR TO ME!!! No complaining mother-in-law here!!! I want him home safe, alive and whole.
And the thing is.... that every other soldier over there has people thinking the same thing. And if they don't - then they should and the Hobbit Hole pretty much does it enough for all of 'em. I know we all feel the same way. I am just so grateful because it's somebody I love. thanks
2J, would you ping from your list to winmag's post too?
