Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Got it, thank you!

2JM & g'nad; well, a very, very light rain downtown KC, at home, just enough to spatter the windshield. Ended July as driest on record (1890's to present), less than a quarter of an inch.

Ooooo! I could eat like this all the time!
I could eat green beans three times a day. Or spinach (drool, drool).
Could you put black olives in that salad and still have it obey the Atkins rules? How about lots of black olives?
To: HairOfTheDog
Me neither, but from hearing it used in context it apparently means, "Let me tell you how it is." Usually used when you're about to tell someone an unpleasant truth.

Mr. Frodo had a nice, but brief visit to the gates of St. John's Church. They close up to the public at 4:00 p.m. Plus it started to rain just as we were heading back to the car (he was already in his box).
I was just sittin' here waitin' for the mom of the student my wife is tutoring to drop off a check. Now we're heading out to get the boys some dinner and take Frodo to his "job" at Wal-Mart.

I don't understand the one about the cow and the cabbage! If a cow gets in the garden he heads right over to any cabbage related thing growing and procedes to chomp down on it so fast you can't get 'em away before it's gone.
Therefore, when somebody is doin' something that just ain't right, or they are just to ignorrant to be right, and you've hinted or been tactful about all that you know how to be. You just light into 'em like a cow into the cabbage.
That's how that cow ate the cabbage.
Right Rose?
Right Suzi?

You know how your nerdiness affects me! Oh oh, does this mean you two are skipping the backgammon and trivial pursuit tonight and going right to those other games you used to play?

To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Whoever said we stopped? :) Used to play - as in any time frame available like right before I hit the post. You know, like "used to play 5 minutes ago." That's it.

Hey Bear, you don't have to print the spreadsheet for us on that. ...kay?
Although, it would be pretty cool to see the other spreadsheet.

Very productive day today for me.
I was on the road less than I feared, so I got home to find the last of the nine "extra" knives had arrived. On a hunch, I took them to the engraver.
The 25 knives he had promised for Monday were already done! I paid for them, and left him the last nine, which will be done on Tuesday. He and his father had gone in to work early today just to do our knives. He admitted it was the most unusual job they had ever done.
So tonight I'm giving each knife some loving attention with my strop. Tomorrow, I'll mail out the knives to those of you who have already paid, with the rest going to WN. When the final nine are engraved, they will be sent out to WN and other purchasers.
I'm still about 400 messages behind today, but I thought I'd post this while I had the chance. Man, it's been a great day for me.

I've only done one spreadsheet recently! The one with the daily post totals for July on the HH.

I want to know how
this here was done.
Does anyone know how?
