John Doe's Review of The Two Towers

R and I saw the Two Towers last night - that was a cool movie. Some spots were a little slow (ie., frog creature argueing with himself too much, human reflecting/dreaming of elf women, etc.)but overall it was cool. Elf warrior kicked butt and the trees were cool. Sorry I don't know the names yet - I'll remember them next time. --C

By brother's thoughts on the movie. Probably reflect's most of the viewing public. When I talked to him yesterday (after wishing him and his a very Merry) Aragorn was "the Human Fighter" and Gandalf was "the Magic User guy." An interesting example of what probably sinks into the general audience's memory of the film...

Yeah, there is something of a Proper Noun Syndrome with Tolkien, but the hardcore fans, including me, generally embrace it.

I dig it, too. If you know the difference between Arnor and Anor, you're hopelessly hooked.

I saw it this evening. I must say, I was quite let down. I got so built up over all this WAR EPIC talk. All the reviews said it was action packed.

If that was action packed, I must have missed the original cut. It took 2 and a half hours to get to the war. I wanted a war within 30 mins. From the previews I thought it would be like that for the whole movie.

I guess you gotta have a number two in order to get to three.

Here's to hoping that the third installment will rock.

Well, yours is the one reaction I didn't expect! Hair is none too happy with me over my comments, so I'll ride this one out. I simply thought it lacked some crucial character development in Treebeard and Faramir and I'll let it go at that. Other than that, awesome.

I'm no true hobit. I have yet to actually READ any of the books. Closest I have gotten is skimming through.

If treebeard was gone into much more in the book, that just sounds downright boring to me. I thought I was watching some captain planet episode, where the trees are getting back at those horrible republicans who destroy the environment, because TREE's are alive......

I think the books reward a genuine effort at reading them. The movies spotlight the action and key decisions. Which isn't bad, but it's only a part of the story.

LOL Brady! I just suffer from a disorder that makes me twitchy and irritable when I hear too much complaining about things I like.

Sorry there wasn't enough battling for ya Tex. LoTR is about a lot of walking and talking, which is what I like best anyway, though I liked the battle.

But the war is yet to come. Saruman put together a decent assault, but he can't smash the free peoples nearly the way Sauron can. I am sure that for you, the movie will only be ruined by the actual Return of the King who will be crowned with some pomp and circumstance, and there will be a wedding or two. I hope bring something nice to wear.

It is fantasy, and the trees are in fact alive. ;~D

It will, as did the first two. Sorry you didn't like it. But these films are telling a story. If you just want the action, get the video game.

No, no, no. The section with the Ents is one of the most fascinating. I wrote my post above to you before I saw you say that you haven't read the books. If you had, I think you'd see much more of the progression of the story. Those of us that are fans knew what was coming, and we knew the events that had to fall into place to make it happen.

Saw it for the second time. Probably will see it once more before it goes off the big screen.

I understand there is a story that must be told, but why can't they do it while the war is going on? :P

Was there still too much walking and talking for you? LOL! Glad you saw it a second time. I am on #4.
