Thanks!

What exactly is Froogle?

Froogle is a new service from Google that makes it easy to find information about products for sale online. By focusing entirely on product search, Froogle applies the power of Google's search technology to a very specific task: locating stores that sell the item you want to find and pointing you directly to the place where you can make a purchase.

How did GOOGLE get to be the most popular search engine on the Web? How did it beat out AltaVista, Excite, and even Yahoo!? I just want to know.

Because people like to post vanities on FreeRepublic.com about Google that only include the word google with a link to the site.

LOL

How did Google get to be the most popular? Maybe because it is ten or twenty times faster than any other search engine.

How did GOOGLE get to be the most popular search engine on the Web? How did it beat out AltaVista, Excite, and even Yahoo!? I just want to know.

One of the reasons is that they pioneered using a new search algorithm based on the number of links to a webpage, rather than the number of keywords on a page. The thinking was that if a lot of people are linking to a page, then it must be a good source of information for that topic.

As a result, when you do a search, the first pages listed tend to be really relevant to the topic you are searching for.
