Welcome!
Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.

Please excuse me Mr. Robinson, just checking to see if the goals for this site are still the same as those stated.
Best Regards.

And, in my opinion, the best way to get this going is to replace as many Democrats as possible. There is absolutely zero hope of recovering our Freedom if we turn the government back over to the Democrats. Period. End of story.

Some long time freepers have been banned recently (and all of their posts erased as if they never existed.) This concerns me. I think the scope of debate is becoming less narrow on FR. But it still beats any other political site IMHO.

I'm glad to hear it!
I think you have made a great contribution to political discourse with this forum. I hope you continue to allow voices from all sides of the debate speak.
To: UnBlinkingEye
Not sure exactly why, but everytime I see your screen name, I always make this connection....
To: Jim Robinson
Yes Jim! And there you have it.

I second the motion, even if they still are politicians. Lesser of two evils, ya know.

"Unblinking Eyes" tend to cause a painful sensation, resulting in...

I suggest the following, before it gets that bad.

There is absolutely zero hope of recovering our Freedom if we turn the government back over to the Democrats. The implication in what you said is that we have lost our Freedom (at least some of it), could both parties be at fault?

the best way to get this going is to replace as many Democrats as possible. There is absolutely zero hope of recovering our Freedom if we turn the government back over to the Democrats. Period. End of story.Okay, but what do we do if we extend our lead in the House, take the Senate (for the second time, thankyouverymuch, Mr. Jeffords), and prevent the theft of the White House... and the largesse grows just as quickly as it ever has, even during an economic slowdown when every sector of the nation is feeling the pinch? If ever there was a time to say, "enough of this foolishness, we need to concentrate on security, Constitutional mandates, and minimize the rest" it was this past budget... and we stood by and watched as it grew as much percentagewise as any Clinton budget. (I understand that discretionary parts of the budget are only a part of the whole shebang, but they grew just as much as the pre-ordained parts.) What is our response then?
To: UnBlinkingEye
Yes, but JR hasn't managed to root out all of us Truman democrats yet. (In other words, respectful disagreement works fine here -- debate is alive and well.) Of course we "democrats" are finding it impossible to vote for actual democrat candidates these days. And some of us are regretting our mistakes in elections past...
I'm for responsible government that has clear limits, not its elimination. But without people like those on FR trying to dramatically cut the size and impact of government, I doubt it would be reasonably "responsible" or "limited."
It's a time for those who care about this country to unify in its defense, and to forget bitter divisions that seem less critical than the threat of terrorism. FR is a great place to express our concerns, vent frustrations, and find ways to compromise with each other in the spirit of saving our nation for posterity.
Happy Patriot's day, and welcome to FR.

Doesn't matter who was at fault. The job is to move ahead with most practical and available means to accomplish the task.

risk (joined 3-13-2003) is welcoming UnblinkingEye (joined 5-27-2000) to FR? Did I miss something? ;^)

You just keep growing the margin until you get to the point that you can replace the worst of the Republicans WITHOUT giving up control to the Democrats. We must maintain control of the committees and the judicial appointments/confirmations, etc., if we're ever to gain any ground. Makes absolutely no sense to give control back to the Democrats, especially when we know that there will be openings on the Supreme Court in the very near future.
If anyone knows of a better way to accomplish the task (and not just some impractible dream of taking control with third parties), please post it. Until someone can convince me otherwise, it's damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
