Freeped the Dixie Chicks in Austin, TX 5/21/03
5/21/03 | The Bat Lady

Posted on 05/21/2003 9:04:35 PM PDT by The Bat Lady

so the Dixie Chicks came to town and we couldn't let them off totally, here in Texas. It was a gloomy almost rainy evening and getting cooler. We got there between 6:15-6:30 for the 7:30 show.

Freepers were Gracy, DrewsDad (and Drew) and the Bat lady.

Gracy can tell you the others there.

The scalpers were holding tickets and offering 2 for 1 ($65.00 each) by the time we left they were $15.00 each.

a good time was had by us, there were many who paid to go in and did. Some had American flag shirts and one lady went by quietly with her "support the President and Troops sign"

I have a box of the BUSH WINS signs from the campaign and took about 5 of them. I figured it would re- enforce the fact that THE U.S. WON THE WAR. And it was liked by the freepers there.
Rumor had it that Barbara and Jenna were going to the concert. I guess they slipped in the back door but wish they had seen our signs.

met a lady from Pflugerville who was very quick with the come backs!!!

They would yell GET A LIFE and she yelled, I will get a life when you get an EDUCATION.

HE yelled you suck d***s and she yelled, I choke on small bones.

Her sign was I like Dixie Chicks ... barbaqued.

Her 7 years old son thought of his own sign... DIXIE CHICKS BECOME CHICKEN D'S

Pretty good, huh?

Did you notice what Natalie had on her shirt tonight?? It looked like FUTK - was she sending Toby Keith a message. Appears so since he left the ACM awards before the end tonight and missed receiving his entertainer of the year award. Guess he saw what she had on her shirt and left. Don't blame him at all. She has reached an all time low.

I of course, didn't go inside, but Gracy did. One of the scalpers gave her a ticket and she went in with her sign.

It was pretty funny to see the scalpers try to sell US the tickets. We said that we wouldn't go in if they paid us.

The liberals kept saying that the Chicks had freedom of speech, I guess they didn't like it that we did too.

We had about 8 and 2 kids. Someone yelled that we should go home, all 5 of us. Which cracked them up but then Sue yelled back they needed more math courses. That we were more than 5.

They also had their signs one was AUSTIN IS ASHAMED THAT BUSH IS FROM TEXAS.

We praised her for saying it in America not on foreign soil.

I just don't think that they get that part.

Well, I'm glad you all were there. They kept the stadium dark when they did their song on the ACM's so we couldn't see how many people were there (or not)on TV.

I couldn't watch when they sang. I'll never listen to them again. I only caught the last second when the house lights came up behind them, which I thought was odd. Then I figured their agent probably wanted to show Nashville and the Academy of Country Music Awards TV audience that all the seats were full. They and their buddies in the media are in a desparate spin game to save their careers, and every occupied seat becomes a vote of support.

I did catch Montgomery Gentry singing My Town, though, so I was happy.

I can't wait to see how many tickets they sell going forward. It was quite lucky of them to have sold out their tickets before Natalie opened her big mouth.

Just checking in. Saw the show tonight. Of course I didn't pay for it. A nice gentleman gave me 2 free tickets that he couldn't sell because earlier I had asked him "nicely" how much they were and said I'd check w/him later.

Tonight was the very first time I ever heard the Dixie Chicks. I'm sooo ashamed of them. That gal Maines had on the nastiest shirt. Can you imagine the audience applauding her (this is WEIRD Austin) as she had on a tight t shirt that said F.U.T.K. She was sooo proud of it. She's gross. She joked and laughed about "since THAT incident as we call it." Then the group sang to a song I never heard before but the pictures shown were of war protesters, hippies, the typical A.N.S.W.E.R. type crowd, UnAmerican leftists, etc. The other two girls seem much tamer but do agree with her as one had the peacenik sign on the back of her outfit.

Sorry, these girls are toooo leftist for me. Their singing is way to loud and Maines is a B$$ch IMO. She thinks she's hot *&%$. Sorry, but I wanted to throw up listening and watching them for their lack of patriotism, and half an audience that agreed with them.

I honestly had an open mind upon deciding to hear them and am sooo disappointed. But then, I had to see for myself.

Thanks Bat Lady for sharing this. We had fun.

Actually, it wasn't a full house. The tickets I had were way up high, but I left after a while and went downstairs to be closer. There were MANY empty seats. So I got to see the performance on the lower level. Must say, the color coordination was beautiful.

Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry are two veteran country guys who got together a few years ago to form a duo. I first got hooked on them from a great, but little known, song called Merry Christmas from the Family, an irreverent, very funny, and in the end touching tune about a dysfunctional family at a Christmas party.

They're hard drinking good ol' boys who just have a certain spirit that I like. At the awards last night they sang their current hit My Town.

I just figured out your question. In my post I wasn't talking about seeing the Dixie Chicks live in Austin, as you did. I was talking about watching them on TV through a live feed to the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Montgomery Gentry appeared at the awards show.

Good for you! I'm glad we met at the Texas House of Representatives last Friday, too.

If you don't mind my mentioning it, the Prenatal Protection Act (our version of the Connor Peterson Act) comes before the Texas Senate tomorrow. Please take a look at this thread:

The empty seats were the result of ticketholders who were encouraged to stand in the "chicken coop", the area around the stages. I saw the concert at the Mark of the Quad Cities and Natalie was wearing a Peace t-shirt. At one point she asked "How am I doing" ("I"?) The crowd clapped, etc. Then she said "WE think so."

Good job! Thanks for the report and pics. The last time I heard the Dixie Chicks was in an Eddie Bauer store. There was a very annoying screeching sound in the store and it wouldn't stop. It was like when a record gets hung and plays the same thing over and over and over again. (yes, I remember records lol) People were leaving the store complaining. LOL, it was the Dixie Chicks on their sound system!

I didn't watch CMA last night, but I did flip past it long enough to hear LeaAnne Rymes (sp?). WOW.

I'm looking forward to seeing you guys next week!

You don't think it looked sold out? I tried to look closely on my brand spanking new TV (great color baby!) and I couldn't see an empty seat when the lights came up.

Anyway, somebody said further up in the thread that scalpers were heavily discounting tickets by showtime, indicating a lack of general interest among the public, which is not a good sign for a heavily promoted top-tier country act that should be at the top of its popularity. So whether the seats were full or not, the Chicks are definitely feeling an economic pinch from their traitorous remarks on foreign soil.

I saw the balcony area or what ever it's called. I know people move to the floor once the concert is underway. To be honest, until last night I'd never heard a DC song. Not my genre. The reason I listen to the awards show is because the remarks of Wayne Newton and Reba. Reba hammered them every chance she got.

I did notice the differences between ACM awards and alot of the others. The attitude toward America is different and they are not afraid to say they are Americans first. The women were not dressed so sluttish. A totally different class of people.
