I am thrilled that so many Freepers asked to be on the ping for Atkins. Let us know when you are going to start and we can have a new "weekly" thread besides freep mailing each other through the week. Welcome newbies and old Atkins retreads! If you fall off.. get up and try again!!

My first trade secret Some of the best low carb condiments are made by Jok'n'Al.... they have Barbque sauce that is out of this world! only 2 carbs per 1TBSP
It gives a constant diet of meat a little pizzaz

Yahoo. LOL We're still on the diet. Hubby has lost 40 lbs since February. I have no idea how much weight I have lost (since I tend to get discouraged easily) but do know I've dropped 4 dress sizes. Atkins is a diet you can stay on. Even going out to eat is no problem. Went to Red Lobster and ordered rib eye steak, caesar salad and grilled asparagus. Told waiter if he brought bread he'd die a horrible death.

Just found out that two of the meds I am on will keep me from losing weight :(
Will see if my doctor will let me off them. I never thought about it but I started really gaining weight after I started taking them in the first place.

What a good idea for a thread! Please add me to the ping list for Atkins. Knowing that there are other Freepers low-carbing is definitely a motivator for me. I'm grateful that while he was still alive, Dr. Atkins saw his work acknowledged by scientific studies and appreciated by the general public at last. The Atkins diet works - and after the induction phase it's much less strict than people think.

Lunch...
steak and egg salad
steak
boiled egg
lettuce
cabbage
cheddar cheese
Marie's Blue Chesse Dressing (zero carbs in this dressing) (2 tablespoons at 170 cals).
I feel like any minute a revival preacher is go to tell me I am going to h*ll for eating this way.
If this doesn't work I had a good meal anyway. :)

Please add me to your ping list! I bought Atkins New Diet Revolution and the cookbook a couple of weeks ago, and am getting started. Having a tough time yesterday and today because I got some kind of gastro-intestinal bug, and my stomach is all roiled up. I want bland food. I had a poached egg on a slice of light bread (5 carbs) this morning, and that went down OK. When I think bland though, I think Cream of Wheat, mashed potatoes, chicken noodle soup. eeeeeh.

I have been on Atkins for about a month, and lost 12 lbs. A few tips.
1) If you are on any meds, check with your doc. I had one that was keeping me from losing at first, even though I was in ketosis.
2) Get metabostix, hat show you are metabolising fat. They help keep you motivated.
3) Check out Atkins Endulge after you are done with induction. They are awesome. Get them at WalMart where they are less than $1 each. Also, Hershey and Brachs make sugar free candy.
4) Learn about net carbs from the Atkins Site. Lots of foods have either fiber or sugar alcohols in their carb counts, neither of which affect blood sugar. Atkins used to focus much more on total carbs, which wasn't nearly as easy to follow.
5) You can buy low carb bread at the store. It is better and cheaper than Atkins bread. I use one at 5g net carbs a slice, so you still have to eat very little.
6) Atkins makes a chocolate, raspberry or vanilla syrup that you can use to make tasty drinks. If you use heavy cream and seltzer with them you get a nice drink w/ no carbs.
Good luck folks.

I forgot...
1) Remember that Atkins isn't really an eat all you want diet. You should eat when you're hungry. Compulsive eating will still make weight loss hard.
2) Yahoo and Atkins both have online ways to track progress and set goals. It's cool seeing a graph showing your weight dropping. Both are free.
This is my second time on Atkins, and I am finding it much easier now that I learned stuff beyond just his first book.

I was watching Fox news this morning, and they had the doctor (can't remember his name) on who answers viewers' questions. He talked about the Atkins diet, and made at least two false statements.
1. All of the saturated fat in the diet is bad - you're arteries will eventuall clog up. Well, it isn't all saturated fat. We eat a lot of fish, chicken, lean pork, and use olive oil and stay away from hydrogenated fats. And the artery clogging, I believe, is caused by factors other than consumptions of fats, other than trans-fats, which are not a good thing to consume. Stay away from vegetable shortening (in many baked goods) and margarines.
2. The diet avoids fruits and vegetables, which are needed for antioxidants, so you're risk of malignancies increases. I guess the good doctor hasn't read the book. We eat a ton of green leafy vegetables and other types of non-starchy veggies, fruits like tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, melons. Don't these qualify as fruits and veggies? Blueberries in particular are high in antioxidants.
He also said that if you do go on this diet, you should go on a statin drug to control your cholesterol. He is a cardiologist, btw.

Please add me to the ping list. I have question about Diet Rite Cola which I started drinking a couple of weeks ago in place of Diet Pepsi. I seem to have developed the munchies hunger and I'm nodding off again. I know that Sucra is derived from sugar so I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Ping me, please. Put me down as having been on Atkins a year, with slow and steady success. Have even conquered Maintenance, which turned out to be harder than losing the weight.
