BALTIMORE -- Sammy Sosa doubled and scored the Chicago Cubs' first run, and Shawn Estes pitched seven innings of six-hit ball Tuesday night in a 4-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Hours after appealing his eight-game suspension for using a corked bat on June 3, Sosa went 2-for-5 to raise his batting average to .290. A decision on his punishment could come as soon as Wednesday.
The game was interrupted in the bottom of the eighth when a fan ran onto the outfield and threw cork at the slugger. The fan was apprehended and arrested.
Sosa received a warm greeting from the crowd of 32,484 at Camden Yards when he went to right field in the first inning.
The last time Sosa played in Baltimore was 1991, with the Chicago White Sox.

Fan just mad 'cuz Baltimore was losing.

Are we talking about a cork? Maybe the fan was just celebrating something with a champagne toast and got confused. Happens to me all the time.

As much as I like Sammy, his excuse is hard to believe. Let's face it, even if he didn't know his bat had cork in it, he's even more guilty for not knowing.

I'm not a big baseball fan - watch occasionally. Sammy has a real weak excuse for what happened.
I am a rabid NASCAR fan. Latest commercial last weekend, "I'll save that cork (from champane bottle) for Sammy."
Whether he likes it or not - damage is being done to his rep.
Very stupid move on his part.

I'd like to sell some land in the West Bank to anyone who believes Sosa's BS story.

Thanks for the ping...I was at that game. The fan ran over the line, threw some cork at him, than ripped his own shirt off shortly before being escorted off the field...Sosa was professional about it and didn't even bat an eye.

Sosa is a cheater and a disgrace to both baseball and Chicago. He should move to New York.
