This is my first topic post. I apologize for breaking any posting requirements, conventions, customs or practices, particularly the Topics field.
I took some pictures in and around the CPA headquarters around the unfortunately named Republican Palace where I work.
These pictures are huge. I'll work on getting smaller ones up later.
The front yard from the roof.
The north Saddam head.
Baath Party HQ, post-aerial renovation.
The south Saddam head w/Blackhawk.
Area between chapel and chow hall.
Directory browsing is on so you can look at the directory that contains these pictures.
Please take it easy on linking to these as my buddy's web site it going to get hammered as it is. Feel free to keep copies for yourself or repost them to other sites for personal, not professional, use.

These pictures are simply astounding. The head! What's with these totalitarian rulers that makes them want to have their images hugely displayed all over the place? Is it the "I am God" syndrome?
Thank you so much for these pictures. It actually looks like it could be a nice place. Hot looking though.

It's a sad shame that I didn't get pics of a trip to Sulimanaya a few weeks ago. Northern Iraq is in pretty good shape. It looks like parts of Idaho or norther AZ.

No worries about the Al Rasheed. It's built to withstand that kind of stuff.
I don't go there due to precisely what happened this morning. It's too close to the edge of the green zone for me to be comfortable. It was just a matter of time.
My guess is that it was former regime guys. The foreign elements are too skilled for that kind of clowning around. They know that three RPGs are only going to flap the curtains and cause some soiled undies.
I don't live there so the only things left to do there involve vice and money. I hear the food is OK and the beer is cheap.
Don't believe the hype. The press, for the most part, is as wrong as two boys in a bathtub.

That was the hotel that had Bush sr's face in tiles on the floor so everyone had to step on it when entering.When Saddam's statue fell close to the Palestine hotel,the Iraqis were pounding on the face with the bottom of their shoes.It is the ultimate insult!
Democratic congressmen came back from a trip to Iraq saying the press was getting it wrong in Iraq,that progress is being made,etc(giving credit where credit is due).When the Dems say it you know how wrong the press is!
