We all get to know posters by following certain topics. A few years back, I used to follow the WOD (War on Drugs)threads. Kevin Curry and CJ used to post on those threads constantly. They were excellent debates, most of which CJ and KC won, IMHO.

Most (52%?) of the other 100,000 posters I might recall by name, but not by their particular views.

Given an opportunity, I could probably ping about 200 posters by memory. A few years back, on a long train ride, I tried to write down as may names as I could remember. The total came to about 110. Many of those were names which have now been inactive for years.

CJ has bailed because of the McClintock-Schwarzenegger wars, I am sure of it. We sparred quite vigorously over the issue, not just on the threads but even via FReepmail to an extent in the weeks and days leading to CJ's abrupt departure. I very nearly bailed myself but relented when it seemed clear to me that the good name of Tom McClintock, an honorable, decent, and well-proven, all-around conservative, would need continual defending at FR--not just now, but for some time to come. I'm in for the duration, although I likely will post with much less frequency.

I am somewhat surprised by the suggestions that CJ is female. I always thought CJ was male, although in retrospect I must admit the written style of some posts (and FReepmail) struck me as having been written by a female. I can't explain why--they just had that aura about them.

In any event, CJ was a far more dedicated and unrelenting foot soldier than I on the WOD and libertarian threads. I got burned out a few years ago and rarely post more than one or two replies on a WOD/libertarian thread these days. But you could always count on CJ to go toe-to-toe with the libertarians for the full 12 rounds--complete with graphics. And if one of CJ's opponents dropped a punch even one millimeter below the belt you could count on CJ to take out a micrometer and jeweler's loupe, and, having verified the offense, to hit the abuse button with relish. That's a level of commitment I could never hope to match. It wearies me just to think of it.

All in all, CJ was a definite asset to FR--the pepper in the soup.

Smearing your opponents as "dopers" amd "moral liberals" would earn you a failing grade in any freshman-level debate class. Here on FR, it's considered "winning". What third-rate standards you have!
