BENJAMIN CALLS SCHUMER FAILURE TO OPPOSE PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION DISGRACEFUL

New York, NY- United States Senate candidate Michael Benjamin (R-NY) today called Senator Charles E. Schumer's support of the barbaric partial-birth abortion procedure disgraceful.

"I find it shocking and appalling that a senator from New York would support a procedure tantamount to infanticide," stated Benjamin.

Partial-birth abortion, a procedure whereby a developed baby is partially delivered from the womb feet first, leaving just part of the head still within the mother, thus allowing an abortionist to thrust steel scissors into the back of the baby's head, removing the brain and collapsing the skull, has been roundly condemned by Americans of all walks of life.

A CNN/Gallup poll earlier this year showed that 70% of Americans support a ban on partial-birth abortions.

"The difference between calling this procedure an abortion and calling it murder is only a matter of inches," stated Benjamin. "As far as I'm concerned this is infanticide and Senator Schumer, by failing to support the ban, and failing consistently to even condemn the procedure, supports this horrific assault on innocent human life."

Benjamin praised the Republican Senate leadership for successfully navigating S-3, the bill banning partial-birth abortions, onto the President's desk for signing. He also commended the 17 Senate Democrats for joining Republicans and making this a genuine bi-partisan achievement.

"Although Democrats and Republicans may disagree on other abortion procedures, it is abundantly clear that most Americans, regardless of political affiliation, see a need to ban this gruesome act, except when the mother's life is at risk - and the bi-partisan support in the Senate for this bill is a reflection of that," stated Benjamin. "Senator Schumer has, once again, assumed a radical position and is way out of the mainstream on an issue of great importance to New Yorkers."
