It's a mistake to rule him out.Absolutely, particularly now that Caputo has said she's not interested. Hiram's fundraising has picked up considerably since her decision. He shouldn't have much trouble in the primary.

I think Hiram Lewis might just beat Byrd, whose voting record is way too liberal for WV and who appears to be either senile or fast approaching it. I would have preferred Betty Ireland to run, but Lewis may actually have a better chance in the general election than the much-ballyhooed Shelley Moore Capito (who is pro-choice on abortion, and thus wouldn't be able to motivate WV's pro-life majority to come out in hordes and take Byrd out).
