Is telephoning someone and giving them a long boring monologue really going to win their support?

I would think it much better to have a multi-branching script that would allow a conversation more like:

"Hello, this is Alvin Jones, a volunteer for the Fred Thompson presidential campaign. Might I have a moment of your time?"

"Sure, I guess."

"Thank you very much. I'll try to keep this brief. First of all, how familiar are you with candidate Fred Thompson?"

"He seems like an okay guy, but he doesn't really seem pro-life."

"Fred Thompson has been endorsed by National Right to Life and many other organizations, and has a solid pro-life voting record."

"Really? I thought he came out against a Constitutional amendment to ban abortion."

"True, but that's because pushing for an amendment at this point won't accomplish anything unless or until 38 states severely restrict abortion. That can't happen until Roe v. Wade is overturned and the power is returned to the states."

"You have a point. I still like ___, though."

"That's fine, but if you'd like to know more about Fred you can visit his web site. Do you have Internet access?"

"Yes, I do."
