If Barack Obama was born on August 14, 1961 - then his mother was likely pregnant sometime in October of 1960.

Check your calendar again. Nine months back from Aug 14 puts you at Nov 14, not October. But that doesn't rule out the distinct possibility that his mother was also 17 when she got pregnant with him. In fact, it is almost certain.
