GOP blind to its race problem
Miami Herald ^ | 06/21/09 | Leonard Pitts

Posted on 06/23/2009 7:33:32 AM PDT by rwrcpa1

The modern GOP was created in 1965 with a stroke of Lyndon Johnson's pen.

If that is an exaggeration, it is not much of one. When Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, he made a prediction: In committing the unpardonable sin of guaranteeing the ballot to all citizens regardless of race, he said, he would cause his party to lose the South ``for a generation.''

And indeed Southern Democrats, who for a century had bombed schools, lynched innocents, perverted justice and terrorized millions in the name of intolerance, responded by leaving their ancestral party in droves. They formed the base of a new GOP, a reality acknowledged by Ronald Reagan when he opened his 1980 campaign at a segregationist fair in a town where three civil-rights workers were infamously martyred, by declaring, 'I believe in states' rights.''

In embracing its new southern base, the Republican Party became the Repugnant Party on matters of race, a distinction it has done little to shed.

So some of us were disappointed but not surprised last week when Sherri Goforth, an aide to Tennessee state Sen. Diane Black, came under fire for an e-mail she sent out. It depicted the 44 U.S. presidents, showing the first 43 in dignified, statesmanlike poses. By contrast, the 44th, the first African American, is seen as a pair of cartoon spook eyes against a black backdrop. Goforth's explanation: the e-mail, which went to GOP staffers, was sent ``to the wrong list of people.''

You may wish to let that one marinate for a moment.

And please, don't bother reminding me of Democrat Robert Byrd's onetime membership in the Ku Klux Klan; I make no argument that the Democrats are untainted by bigotry. Rather, my argument is that the GOP is consumed by it, riddled with it...

Pitts is an idiot. If not for the Republicans, the civil rights acts would not have passed. It is democrats that nearly derailed the legislation.

Funny how journalists don’t seem to remember it was Al Gore Sr. and Democrats who filibusters these civil rights acts and it was Republicans who voted overwhelmingly for them. But revisionist history prevails. The media will never admit the truth, because the truth is not very pretty for the DNC.

What a crock.

Liberals are obsessed in every way with race. In hiring, in appointments, in economics, in health care, in entertainment, in sports, in academics, in politics, in the arts.

Liberals can't pick their nose without wondering about the racial implications.

He’s saying that those democrats became Republicans and that’s why the Democrat Solid South is now the Republican Solid South.

This is just more BS saying that if you come out against Obama on issues it’s because you’re a racist.

I would vote for a conservative black man in a heart beat, and not because he’s black.

“Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.” — Former KKK member and current U.S. Senator Robert Byrd(D)

“There are white niggers. I’ve seen a lot of white niggers in my time. “ — Former KKK member and current U.S. Senator Robert Byrd(D)

“You cannot go to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian Accent.” —Vice President Joe Biden(D)

“I mean you’ve got the first sort of mainstream African American, who’s articulate and bright and clean and a nice looking guy.” — Vice President Joe Biden (D) about Barack Obama

“You all know Gandhi. He ran a gas station down in St Louis.” —U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton(D)

“You f*cking Jew b@stard.” — Hillary Clinton (D) to political operative Paul Fray. This was revealed in “State of a Union: Inside the Complex Marriage of Bill and Hillary Clinton” and has been verified by Paul Fray and three witnesses.

‘’He would have been right at the founding of this country. He would have been in the leadership crafting this Constitution. He would have been right during the great conflict of Civil War in this nation. He would have been right at the great moments of international threat we faced in the 20th century.’’ — US Senator Chris Dodd (D) speaking of Robert Byrd. Trent Lott stepped down as Majority Leader (under pressure from Democrats) after making similar comments about Strom Thurmond.

Remind me which party it is whenever the topic of school choice comes up that sends all their operatives around to the lily white suburban districts to whisper "If this passes, our district is going to be overrun with black kids."

Hint: It ain't the Republicans.

I committing to trade votes for government hand-outs, the Democratic Party has BECOME the "unpardonable sin".

The modern GOP that backed the Civil Rights movement more than the donk? The GOP of Lincoln? That GOP, who has stood for INDIVIDUAL liberty as opposed to STATE FORCED “equality” (the donk model)? THAT GOP?

The aurthor of this article is a MORON.

The entire history of the Democratic Party is one of racism and fascism.

From the Civil War, to the openly racist Woodrow Wilson ("slaves were almost uniformly dealt with indulgently and even affectionately by their masters"), to FDR locking up Japanese for the crime of being Japanese, to their embrace of the racist eugenic ideas of Margaret Sanger, to their blocking of civil rights legislation, the establishment of Jim Crow laws, etc.

So some GOP dingbat sent out a racist joke. Yeah, that compares.

To say there's a double standard is so ridiculously obvious to anyone who doesn't stay stoned on Liberal Kool-Aid that it is not even worth saying.

Pitt evidently hasn't had a coherent day in years.

The only “race problem” the GOP has is this mindless notion that they need to cater and pander to various “races”. As I’ve mentioned previously six thousand times on Free Republic, if the Republican candidate for President in 2008 had run on nothing more than a strict anti-illegal immigration platform, half the Democrats would have come over and the Republican would have won in a landslide. But no, McCain and his idiot advisors knew better, just like Bush and his idiot advisor Rove knew better. And now we have an anti-American communist in the White House. And now the GOP is really going to see what a “race problem” looks like.

The “race problem” and “too conservative” problem are just two sides to the same coin of the BS realm RINOs deal in. There are more racists per 1000 in any democrat group in either Boston or New York than you'd be able to find in a group of republicans three times that size anywhere in the country. Democrats know how to keep black folks afraid of voting their own interests, and they've been getting propaganda like this ever since the Republicans made it possible for Johnson to sign the Civil Rights Act in spite of his own democrat party being against it. What did you expect the master of democrat BS, Johnson, to say? “Republicans making it possible for me to get this bill passed will naturally now take the south?”. No, he right away started to take the credit away from the republicans by making exactly the statement the article quotes.

It's all well and good to blame republicans for what black folks do, and its' a hell of a lot easier than admitting that blacks habitually vote against their own self interest. It isn't accurate, mind you, just easier. Isn't it about time the republicans face the fact that blacks as a group are into self-defeating behaviors and recognize that their voting habits are one of them? Maybe then republicans can come up with effective ways to approach blacks rather than more nonsense from the RINO wing of the democrap-lite gang who write articles like this.

The Republican "race" problem is the race they lose by listening to crap like this rather than running as conservatives who don't pander to any group. THAT, is the "Race" problem the Republicans have, not the one the author so ineptly tries to lay at their feet.

have a nice day
