Snowe: GOP Could Be Alienating Hispanics
National Journal ^ | 2009-08-09 | Amy Harder

Olympia Snowe said today that her Republican colleagues' pending "no" votes on Sonia Sotomayor raise "a serious concern" about alienating their Hispanic constituencies. The Maine moderate was among the first GOP lawmakers to say she would vote yes, joining Mel Martinez of Florida and Richard Lugar of Indiana on July 17.

Snowe told reporters that voting for Sotomayor "would have certainly been an avenue for appealing to the Hispanic community, where we did poorly in the last election. I think we can ill afford to lose their support in the future when we're attempting to rebuild the Republican Party nationally," she said.

Listenhillary to the Hispanics and Olympia Snowe. We’re broke and out of gas. If you want to chip in and help push, welcome. If you want to hop in the wagon while we push, stay home.

If we have to sell out our principles, sell out our core to appeal to this group, screw that group. Let’s focus on keeping them out, instead.

GOP needs to give “Hispanics” more Hope ‘n Change.

Starting with free “health care reform” for 25 million++ Mexican/Honduran/Salvadorean/Guatemalan illegal aliens.

And free spanking new American identities.

And free perpetual “Z Visas.”

So basically Snowe’s YES vote is ‘zero’ about Sotomayor’s abilities and EVERYTHING about her pandering to hispanic voters.

I smell fraud.

The esteemed Republican Senator Pansy Graham has that market cornered.

Oh, you mean the GOP is at risk of losing that huge swell of Hispanic support it got when Miguel Estrada was shot down by Dems?

This is like asking blacks, gays, the homeless, druggies, welfare whores, governmnet workers, and other leeches to join the GOP.

Stuff it Snowe! They think they have the pulse on the American people. My husband of over 3 decades (Puerto Rican from the South Bronx who worked his way out and up) absolutely detests Sotomayor and everything she stands for. There are plenty of conservative hispanics out here for the GOP to tap into.

>>> I’m really tired of identity politics. <<<

It’s disgusting and revolting.

We let our Congress play this sickening game to our detriment.

Oh and she would not want to upset all the hispanics in Maine or they both may vote for the opposition.

I think he's got a thing for tall, dark leather-clad strangers with pencil mustaches.

my exact thoughts -—

I’m really tired of identity politics. The GOP needs to start banging the drum that they could care less about anyone’s race and that anyone who mentions it is clearly racist. That’s how the argument should be framed.

The exception to what you say MIGHT be the OLDER Cubans who understand what socialism does to a nation and fled here to get away from a system Obama is hell-bent on installing here.

Not so sure about THEIR kids if they attended the government school indoctrination centers.

In other words Ms Snowe is saying her colleagues should have voted for Sodomizer because of her race and not her ideology or track record.
