Ron Paul Makes Rock Star Appearance in New Orleans

If a presidential election were held last night on the campus of Loyola University New Orleans, the winner would not have been the 48 year old occupant of the White House, but a spry 74 year old physician from Texas.

U..S. Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) enthralled a huge crowd of supporters and students with a one hour address on topics ranging from the war in Afghanistan to the Federal Reserve. The crowd was so large that the university set up five overflow rooms to accommodate the intense interest in Dr. Paul’s message.

It was amazing to see such an enthusiastic reception for Paul’s message of limited government, freedom and adherence to the U.S. Constitution. The event was mostly promoted on the Internet and, as usual, the mainstream media was nowhere to be seen. Nevertheless, more and more people are learning about Ron Paul and they agree with his message.

Last night, Paul warned that the U.S. foreign policy was creating enemies for this country around the world. He noted that as innocent civilians are killed in war, Muslim families with “long memories” will spend the rest of their lives seeking vengeance against Americans. Paul said that the “easiest place to cut” the federal budget is the defense department and that the U.S. should bring home our troops from not only the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also countries such as South Korea, Japan and Germany.

In keeping with his staunch libertarian principles, Paul advocated an end to selective service and the draft and the war on drugs. He called for an end to all foreign aid and said that if people wanted to help the poor in other countries, they should give handsome donations. Such generosity will be made easier if Paul is successful in eliminating the federal income tax.

The Congressman is delighted with the tea parties and the town hall meetings and the “anger being directed at Washington D.C.” He said that the Congress should “get government off of our backs and out of our lives” and allow individuals to “keep the fruits of their labor.” He said that the government has expanded beyond the “restraints of the Constitution” and there is no constitutional right to medical care, education or free meals.

In Paul’s view, the real problem is the continual devaluing of the U..S. dollar and the resulting inflation which hits the poor and the middle class the worst. Paul noted that it is ironic that our former communist enemies are now our bankers. If the dollar continues to lose its value, the Congressman believes that the result will be higher interest rates and rampant inflation. He said that the only way to improve the value of the dollar is “to restrain the printing press.”

While the Obama administration may be “brainwashing themselves” that their policies are working, Paul believes that a correction is inevitable. There will be “tough days ahead” to correct for the “extravagance of the past.” As more people become upset and disillusioned with their government, Paul sees the possibility for a “de facto nullification” in which people ignore our government and just “walk away.

Even though he sounded the alarm about our problems, Paul is optimistic because the new generation has “a different attitude about government.” He also noted that the rise of the Internet allows for people to learn about these issues, study the documents of the Founding Fathers and become aware of what is going on in our government.

Overall, Paul believes that the country is headed for perilous times unless more Americans “wake up.” Yet, due to Ron Paul and other critics of the Obama administration, the American public is finally waking up and attempting to take back control of their government. While the stakes are very high and the problems quite immense, it is at least encouraging that a greater number of Americans are aware of what is happening with their government.

Progress is also gradually occurring in Washington D.C. Dr. Paul noted that there is increased support for his bill to audit the Federal Reserve. Paul has over 280 co-sponsors for the legislation, all Republicans and over 100 Democrats in the House.

If the crowd in Loyola University is any indication, the Ron Paul revolution is alive and well. Paul’s message strongly resonated with the audience, both students and adults. It followed months of unprecedented citizen activism at tea parties and town hall meetings throughout the country.

Dr. Ron Paul deserves a good deal of credit for this movement for he raised many of these issues during his 2008 presidential campaign. In fact, he predicted the financial crisis which has engulfed this country over the past year. While he was not able to wrest the GOP nomination from the favorite of party leaders, Paul attracted millions of supporters to his cause.

Now Paul is even more credible and Americans are even more receptive to his pro-liberty message. The time might be right for Ron Paul to achieve mass appeal in this country. Certainly, he has as much appeal on the Loyola campus as any rock star.

Let’s hope America starts learning the words to the song this rock star is singing.

His detractors were more obnoxious, employing the Professorial “raised eyebrow” approach on issues for which they had no good answer to Paul arguments. I am refraining from being more specific, as in the present emergency—containing Obama—we need some of those 2008 detractors.

He needs to run as a Democrat, not a Republican.

And why should a man who won his Republican seat, once again, in a crushing landslide, change parties?

It is true that the Democratic Party once had a very large Conservative wing, particularly in the South, but that is not the case--nor has it been for some while. The idea that the most Conservative man in the House of Representatives should join a party now run by Mrs. Pelosi and President Obama can only be described as silly.

Ron Paul is actually the most conservative member of congress in HISTORY.

Larry McDonald (a Democrat) was the 2nd!

Actually, Paul’s ACU rating is just to the left of McCain, while he talks Conservative, his voting record and pork record leave much to be desired.

the ACU is a load of horsesh*t. Ron votes against most bills because they’re unconstitutional even if the ACU labels them “conservative” hence the skewed rating. I believe there was better research done which showed he is the most conservative in the history of the congress

Ron Paul: Abolish the IRS and Federal Reserve, no compromise on gun rights, kill off medicare and medicaid, end birthright citizenship, withdraw from the United Nations, lower taxes, massively cut spending, no votes for unbalanced budgets, end foreign aid, shrink the size of the federal government, against campaign finance reform, voted against the bailout........

Yes, clearly he should be a democrat. Clearly all democrats are just like Ron Paul.

You are right in pointing out Dr. Paul's consistent Conservatism, but to say he is the most Conservative member of Congress over the past 72 years, involves trying to create an exact formula, which in my opinion is impossible.

Different Conservatives have different priorities. It is not possible to accurately put a numerical value on the relative importance of different issues, or to balance those considerations with respect to temporary contingencies, compromise votes to obtain a corresponding compromise from a foe in an important direction, etc..

The records of some very solid Conservatives, in your long listing, are skewed by votes on issues which were not necessarily Conservative/Liberal, but more Republican/Democrat, which is never reliable, considering that both our Parties have always been coalitions of factions.

Let us just leave it that Dr. Paul is very fine, dedicated and princpled man, who was not fairly treated by the mass media in the past Presidential Primaries.

some day, many of those young people in the audience will become ... conservative Republicans! (To the dismay of Ron Paul.)

Ron Paul’s entire Campaign for Liberty is about two things: ensuring the youth of this generation don’t become card carrying commies and to force the Republican mainstream away from neoconservatism and back to the ideals of Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater, and the younger Ronald Reagan. I’d say he’s having success with the former, and the latter is becoming increasing irrelevant.

You might want to look at Ron Paul’s voting record.

He’s just another anti-semetic liberal who lies about what he does.

I am well aware of Ron Paul's voting record. That is what some of us have been discussing above. As for your absurd comment, that Ron Paul is an "anti-semetic liberal," you must be deranged to believe that.

If you have some disagreement with Dr. Paul, on one or more issues, why don't you have the decency to discuss those issues, and not hide behind ex cathedra pronouncements aspersing his beliefs & character. Are you trying to sound like a shill for the Republican Left?

“As for your absurd comment, that Ron Paul is an “anti-semetic liberal,” you must be deranged to believe that.”

Hardly. Ron Paul is only a federalist of convenience, typically at the expense of Israel.

He’s a favorite of NeoNazi group Stormfront and has been photographed enjoying the company of the Stormfront founders.

He shares the Stormfronter’s disdain of the Federal Reserve based on Jewish-control conspiracy theories.

He used to authored the “Ron Paul Reports” that spewed anti-semetic garbage worthy of Hamas. Indeed, the newsletters display an obsession with Israel; no other country is mentioned more often in the editions I read, or with more vitriol.

A 1987 issue of Paul’s letter called Israel “an aggressive, nationalist state,” and a 1990 newsletter discussed the “tens of thousands of well-placed friends of Israel in all countries who are willing to wok [sic] for the Mossad in their area of expertise.”

Of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, a newsletter said, “Whether it was a setup by the Israeli Mossad, as a Jewish friend of mine suspects, or was truly a retaliation by the Islamic fundamentalists, matters little.”

In one he was arguing that lobbying groups who seek special favors and handouts are evil, Paul then wrote, “By far the most powerful lobby in Washington of the bad sort is the Israeli government.”

And on and on.

Yes, these are but examples of hundreds of such anti-semetic views.

Your comments show the obsession you seek to attribute unfairly to Dr. Paul. None of the quotes you offer, completely out of context, are attacks on anyone because of their ethnicity, only criticisms of Israeli policy.

As for Dr. Paul's criticisms of the Federal Reserve, none of these have been based on any "Jewish control" theory. They are based upon sound money concepts, which go back to the Austrian school of Economics, basically articulated by the great Ludwig von Mises (who, incidentally, happened to be Jewish).

Again, if you disagree with Dr. Paul's views on any subject, address the subject. Don't try to smear the man-or stir up ill will among Conservatives.

Those are but drops in the ocean.

There are thousands of more examples (like leading the effort to pressure Ronald Reagan to abandon Lebanon so as to screw Israel) . . . and yet favor ME involvment when it helps anti-Israel interests.

He’s a anti-semetic kook, who travels with anti-semetic kooks.

Why do you think of Ron Paul as being liberal and anti-semitic? That's like Jimmy Carter throwing out the "R" word when he lacks a coherent argument.
