You know Rubio and DeVore, now meet Mulvaney.

With national attention being placed on spending, healthcare “reform” and jobs, it’s easy to forget that, as Tip O’neill said, “All politics is local.”

With this in mind, I reached out to the Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District in SC, Michael (Mick) Mulvaney. Currently Mulvaney is a state senator, but he now seeks national office, and, more specifically, the seat of Rep. John Spratt (D). Unseating Rep. Spratt will be no easy task. He’s a 14-term incumbent and Chairman of the Budget Finance Committee.

In spite of this, Time Magazine named Sen. Mulvaney’s campaign to be of the top five (out of 500) races to likely deliver a stunning Scott Brown-style upset in the 2010 elections.

Mulvaney is a true conservative, the kind I believe any redstater can get behind. If you aren’t convinced by the fact that he was one of only a handful of state senators to vote to uphold Gov. Mark Sanford’s veto of the state budget (which included stimulus funds), perhaps his view on government is best summed up in this quote from his website: “I believe that the federal government’s primary duty is to safeguard our personal freedoms so that we can reach our highest potential as individuals. Somehow our government has forgotten that. In just a generation Washington has gone from ‘Ask not what your country can do for you…’ to ‘We will guarantee your GM warranty.’”

SC-5 certainly should be do-able for a strong Republican candidate this year, as Mulvaney seems to be, Spratt's seniority notwithstanding. Mulveney needs to tie Spratt to Pelosi at every opportunity. By election day, the incumbent should be known as "SprattPelosi."

The Cook Partisan Voting Index rates the district at R+7, meaning that the district trends 7% more Republican, at least in Presidential elections, than the national average. And, indeed, McCain took the district comfortably in 2008.

To a significant extent, SC-5 is a suburban Charlotte (NC) district. York County (which contains Rock Hill and Fort Mill) will cast more than a third of the district's vote, and like all of the counties bordering Mecklenburg (Charlotte), it is strongly Republican. McCain carried it by a 55,000-38,000 margin in 2008; Bush took it over Kerry in 2004 by a wider margin, 45,000-24,000. Note also the sharp increase in total votes cast, indicative of the recent growth in Charlotte's suburbs.

That “Islamic cresent” you refer to has been around since Waaay before anyone worried about the Nation of Islam. That is the SC emblem, cresent moon and Palmetto Palm tree. Take a breath (unless you’re a Spratt supporter)and relax.

Thanks for your answer. No definetly not a Spratt supporter.

Nervous about Islam, yes! Suspicious yes, since they are in our Pentagon, military, congress and the White House....

But I think Mulvaney may have some problems over his real estate development deals he profited on...I will wait to donate.

Freddd,

From FITSnews:

By FITSNews on March 4th, 2010 at 10:08 am

Fred,

Since you mention it, we called the person who is (allegedly) behind that website and offered them an unfiltered opportunity to lay out their allegations and supporting documentation.

They refused.

Specifically, we offered them an unfiltered (i.e. no questions from us) video availability, which we would have then posted on our YouTube page and posted here on FITS.

Again, they refused.

Mulvaney’s attorney, on the other hand, has provided us with specific documentation that refutes the charges that were made. Accordingly, we see no reason to write a story unless the “IL Boondoggle” guy is actually going to make the (since disproven) allegations on the record.

Apparently, he wants NONE of that, and we don’t blame him, because as far as we could tell everything on that website is bullshit.

Finally, for what it’s worth, “Unfair, Imbalanced” is our friggin’ slogan, dumbass. We make no bones about that, but where people are allegedly wasting tax dollars (as the IL Boondoggle people allege that Mulvaney did), we investigate.

-FITS

BTW, are you and the "Fred" who wrote to FITSnews related?
