Republican voters in South Carolinas third congressional district will also be returning to the polls on June 22 to pick a candidate for the general election.
With 92% of precincts reporting, the Associated Press predicted a runoff between Richard Cash, owner of an ice cream business and formerly a full-time antiabortion activist, and Jeff Duncan, a state assemblyman.
Cash led Duncan 24.9% to 23.5%, with four other candidates splitting the rest of the vote. The winner will face Democrat Jane Dyer, the 2008 candidate, in November.
The strongly conservative district has been represented by Republican Rep. Gresham Barrett, who is running for governor.

It turns out that both of the finishers are strong conservatives. Jeff Duncan won the endorsement of the Club For Growth. Richard Cash is a small businessman and former leader of Pastors for Life.
