In a surprising move given her reputation as a political outsider, Sarah Palin is helping the Republican National Committee raise money ahead of November's elections.
Palin has attached her name to a letter and survey being mailed to RNC donors soliciting contributions for the committee's Victory 2010 program, a nationwide get-out-the-vote effort.
"Millions of Americans are expressing their frustration with the state of our government. I join them and seek to return our country to greatness," reads the letter, obtained by CNN Friday.
"To accomplish this, working within our two party system, I join the RNC - the political home for "Commonsense Conservatives" who want to re-take governance - and I ask you to join me," the former Republican vice presidential nominee's letter continues. "Let's bring our new brand of Reagan conservatism to our party and the country!"
Having the Palin stamp of approval may help the RNC recover some of its standing among conservatives who have been troubled by chairman Michael Steele's handling of the committee. And her unquestioned star power is certain to help the RNC in its ambitious quest to raise a total of $107 million in 2010.
But her helping hand could be seen as an effort to mend fences with party insiders as she ponders a possible presidential bid in 2012.

Does Thurston Howell III have Gilligan (Huckabee) driving his pickup?”
Come to think of it, there are a lot similarities between the two odd couples. Next thing you know Romney will call Playgirl and offer to do a centerfold - won’t that set the church on its ear.
All funds raised should be held out the control of the RNC, and only released to it with the condition that Steele resigns with Palin serving as the interim leader.
