From a policy perspective, what are folks opinons on a path to citizenship that is the same as if they were waiting from their home country. A foreigner can automatically register as a documented worker who can legally work here and begin functioning in our employment/taxation system. They have to apply for and complete the exact same steps outside of the fact that they can stay here under legal conditions. Obviously, those with criminal backgrounds would not qualify and need to be booted, and those here and documented would lose their status and get booted if they committed crimes.

Other than the idea of mass deportation is there a better solution?

I hadn’t read your comment before posting, but I think what you’ve outlined is a very practical solution. And I think most illegals who came here for the opportunity to work and support their families would embrace it. Those who came here to peddle drugs or do other illegal acts DO need to be deported and if Mexico doesn’t like it, tough.

Build the fence, secure the border first.
