Maine Sen. Susan Collins Rips Into Sarah Palin
Lez Get Real ^ | November 10, 2010 | Bridgette P. LaVictoire

It is beginning to look like the GOP has declared open season on Mama Grizzlies- or at least one Mama Grizzly. Many Republicans are losing their willingness to stay silent about Sarah Palin, and the latest is Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins who has always been a moderate politically. New England’s Republicans have been reluctant to cater to the Tea Party because it is not a very strong movement in the region. Vermont’s Tea Party rallies have attracted around a hundred people, for instance.

Senator Collins feels that former Governor Palin cost the Republicans control of the Senate with her endorsements of Christine O’Donnell, Sharron Angle, Carly Fiorina, Ken Buck John Raese, and Joe Miller, among others.

Collins does not believe that Palin will run for President stating “I think she likes being a celebrity commentator for Fox and a speaker and being able to provide for her family. I think that life appeals to her. It’s a lot easier to charge people up than actually govern.”

She also stated about Palin and Republican Senator Jim DeMint “they cost us two seats we could have won,” referencing Delaware and Nevada.

Collins also believes that if Joe Miller fails to unseat Lisa Murkowski in Alaska, that her power will be weakened considerably. Collins is up for reelection in 2014. Senior Maine Senator Olympia Snowe is up for reelection in 2012, and may find herself in the crosshairs of the Tea Party movement the same way that Scott Brown is right now. Brown is also up for reelection in 2012.

Hmm. And I think it’s a huge mistake to encourage an internecine war. I don’t see the upside at all. And making an idol of Palin, much as happened with Obama,is also a mistake. All it does is set her up as a greater target and for a fall.

That's just a back-handed or softer way to say that people here on FreeRepublic that support her are cultists.

Same obnoxious type of slur.

And the reason I am so hard on you on that statement is that there are volumnous posts by supporters of Sarah explaining in detail why they support her.

Her conservative position on the issues.

Her fearlessness in getting out in front of every issue and being willing to take the inevitable flak, both from our enemies on the left, and from those you would warn us not to have an intercine squabble with.

Her executive and successful experience in government.

Her leadership

Her absolute love of America, America's values, and America's Military.

If you cannot see that in the posts here on FreeRepublic, you need help.

Balderdash!

You apparently didn't pay much attention to President Reagan.

Being President did not slow him down one little bit on being able to be frank and to the point.

In fact, it gave him a greater audience, he became more effective, as will Sarah when she becomes POTUS in 2012.

Collins is hacked off because she just lost a massive amount of potential power. If the pubs just barely had the Senate, then those RINOs like her could call the shots on close votes.

What I’d give to see Sarah beech-slap that sow back to last Tuesday.

If it makes you feel any better, Suzie's tied to the railroad tracks and can hear the train whistle in the distance. Figuratively speaking, of course.

If you don’t believe a President is constrained by his office & political considerations relative to a political activist & commentator, then we have nothing to talk about.

Dream on.

Those two scumbags in Maine can go, as far as I’m concerned.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee spent $3 million in the week before the election on the ill-fated campaign of Carly Fiorina, despite polling that showed her trailing by 9 points to the tiny Marxist Barbara Boxer (Fiorina ended up losing by... 9.8%).

In the mean time, Ken Buck lost by a tiny margin in Colorado; Nevada’s Sharron Angle lost by a similar narrow vote total, Dino Rossi was edged by Patty Murray in Washington, 27,000 votes swung the election against Christine O’Donnell in Delaware and and Joe Miller is hanging by a thread in Alaska.

In Alaska, the final results may not be known for some time, but the NRSC’s final ads actually ended up helping Lisa Murkowski in her write-in campaign against GOP nominee Joe Miller. Instead of attacking Murkowski — the candidate who most threatened the party’s nominee — the NRSC instead took aim at Democrat Scott McAdams, who had no chance of winning. Any support they drove from McAdams was far more likely to go to Murkowski than to Miller — meaning the NRSC effort probably did more harm than good for Miller’s campaign.

In other words, the NRSC’s idiocy — combined with outrageous remarks by Karl Rove on national television — likely doomed four or five true conservative candidates to extinction.

In the post-election debrief, the Nixonian RINO contingent of Whimsy Graham, John Cornyn and the rest of the NRSC’s ludicrous cadre of losers blamed... staunch conservative Jim DeMint, who had funded a handful of Tea Party-backed Senatorial winners like Pat Toomey (PA), Marco Rubio (FL), Rand Paul (KY), Mike Lee (UT) and Ron Johnson (WI).

Oh, but that $8 million spent on Fiorina’s campaign didn’t hurt at all — right, boys?

John Raese doesn’t belong on that list. Nobody willing to run would have done better this year in WVA against such a strong dem candidate. Same for Fiorina.

However the idea of a Tea Party challenge to Scott Brown is insane. For the foreseeable future Brown is as good as it gets in that state. Undercutting him just hands the seat to the dems as a gift. Delaware illustrates the principle.

I don’t think we’ll be hearing anything of value from Ms. RINO after the next election.

I feel you are right. Moderate Republicans do not understand, as no one else does, the T-Party Movement. The majority of Palin’s endorsements did WIN the mid-term elections. Her record speaks for itself and was a lot better than Obama’s endorsements. The Left is afraid of Palin and so are the moderate Democrats and Republicans. She is no longer in politics herself but has a strong voice for what the real hard working folks in this country want (less spending, less gov’t intrusion, and more jobs). I feel Collins and Snowe are in for a battle when they both run. I could not believe that spendster Pingree and Michaud both were re-elected to the House? That was strange. Also, LePage was endorsed by the T-Party and he now holds the power in Augusta, along with the HOUSE and SENATE for the first time in what, over 40 yrs. The people of Maine have woken up as with the rest of the nation. RINO’s will be out of work soon....They will be able to contribute their losses to Palin and the grass root movement of the T-Party folks across the nation. I can’t wait for them to both to be taken out of office.....I speak from the heart, I have e-mailed, written and called both of their offices and it has been shown to me that they do not care about folks back home that voted them both in. I will not support either of them when the run again....
