Gloria Steinem: Tough Cookies (Left's womyn are 'main event', conservatives 'side show')
The New York Times Women's Fashion ^ | February 25, 2011 | Gloria Steinem

Posted on 02/25/2011 9:13:24 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

We know that Sarah Palin hunts animals on reality TV and cheers her daughter on ‘‘Dancing With the Stars’’ — but do we know that both conservative and liberal scholars rate Nancy Pelosi as one of the most successful speakers of the House in United States history?

We know that Congresswoman Michele Bachmann gave the Tea Party’s State of the Union response, believes that the founding fathers abolished slavery and urged her Minnesota constituents to be ‘‘armed and dangerous’’ — but do we know that Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California is calling for the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan?

We know that Christine O’Donnell assured voters she was no longer a witch or antimasturbation yet lost her bid to be a United States senator from Delaware — but do we know that Senator Barbara Boxer supported reproductive freedom and restricting of shore oil drilling yet defeated her Republican challenger, Carly Fiorina?

Representative Barbara Lee, Democrat of the Ninth District of California, in the Rayburn House Office Building. If you answered ‘‘no’’ to any of the above, you have the right to protest media that cover sideshows instead of the main event.

Political women like Pelosi, Lee and Boxer are the main event because they work hard for majority issues, stay civil in the face of opposition and benefit from the gender gap; that is, the difference between male and female voting patterns on issues that are even more critical to women than to men. So do senators like Dianne_Feinstein of California, Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, as well as Congresswomen like Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, Maxine Waters of California, Carolyn Maloney of New York and Eleanor Holmes Norton of the District of Columbia — to name a few.....

Jeannette Rankin’s life was filled with extraordinary achievements: she was the first woman elected to Congress, one of the few suffragists elected to Congress, and the only Member of Congress to vote against U.S. participation in both World War I and World War II. “I may be the first woman member of Congress,” she observed upon her election in 1916. “But I won’t be the last.”

The first woman in congress was a Republican, but she still sounds like a "side show" to me.

Gloria Steinem: Tough Cookies (Left's womyn are 'main event'

This has been true and that has a lot to do with the messes we are in like destruction of the family, wholesale abortion, etc.

The conservative women on the other hand have just arrived to clean up this mess.

they work hard for majority issues, stay civil in the face of opposition

Few demonstrations of hatred for the voter have been so blatant and so public as pelosi's "walk by" of the protesters outside the Capital.

As for majority issues, the whole point of the Gay Marrige, Global Warming and Obamacare votes was that they WEREN'T majority issues (whatever the heck a majority issue is), but were cases of a minority forcing their will on the majority.

I will admit it is funny to see lefties suddenly praising themselves for 'being civil,' after years of screaming about 'getting in their faces'.

Actually Steinem should be glad these women don't get more attention. Barbara Boxer makes a fool of herself every time she opens her mouth—she may be the least intelligent member of the Senate, although Washington state freepers could make a pretty good case for Patty Murray.

As a Maryland resident I can tell you that Babs Mikulski votes the party line.

It must be the easiest job in the world, she does absolutely nothing but what the Democrats tell her to do, and make an occasional appearance at some democrat function or other.

Ever heard the description “Useless as Teats on a Bull”? That’s our girl Babs.
