So if I had picked you out of 300+ million Americans to be my vice-presidential running mate, you’d backstab me two years later? Thanks for the warning!!

Vet,
I have sincerely found admiration for you over the past 6 + years. You have had some very profound posts throughout the years, which I hope you are aware of. I’m sure there are countless others who would agree.

If it were me, personally, I would have remained silent all the way. And it wouldn’t be a lack of loyalty issue.

It may be that Mrs. Palin fully agreed with everything that McCain did, does, or wishes to do. In that sense, she did this willingly and with full knowledge of supporting him....and then I would really find fault with her character.

But, if Mrs. Palin did this as a method of not “backstabbing”, she had a lot of opportunities to rise above.

Loyalty is a fine thing. I consider myself loyal to my colleagues, friends and family. But if any one of them makes a decision about their life or their ethics that I can’t honestly support, I will quietly tell them no if they ask me to in some way to be their cheerleader. And I know I can count on those who are closest to me to do the same for me.

It’s a great thing to have that check and balance from people I trust. In a lot of ways, it makes each of us in our circle consider one another with high regard because we remain honest about our morals.

Over 10 years ago, a friend of mine decided she was gay. We have had numerous discussions over her new lifestyle through the years..naturally I can’t agree with her lifestyle choice, but I love her dearly, she is an amazingly talented person. She has asked me over the years to step up for her causes, but I decline.

In short, you can still have loyalty to a person without supporting them fully in their endeavors. And Mrs. Palin could have opted for that route.

I guess it’s not as important in these days to stick to our convictions regardless the consequences. I’m just not as willing to be a “yes” girl for the sake of getting ahead.

There are two sides to every issue, and you gave the other. I understand that Senator McCain is a RINO’s RINO, but he did pick her for the second most important job in the world. It isn’t like he made her dog catcher of Yuma or lent her some money. But I take your point.
