I agree with you. God has issued a conditional covenant: “I will bless those who bless you (Israel) and curse those who curse you.” A Christian individual or nation cannot be “neutral” in regard to Israel. This is why many conservative organizations have failed. They came out on the wrong side of this issue. God bless Sarah Palin for understanding this principle.

I guess I got so angry that she supported McCain in the last election (for no good reason) that I am now finding small hints of this, that and the other to contradict what I found to be admirable about her originally. She talks tough on issues, but still..she supported McCain.

Two things come to mind.

One is Reagan's 80 percent. McCain, in my book, rated maybe 40 percent. Palin easily rates 80 percent for me.

Second is the position of honor in which Palin found herself. She was damned if she did, and damned if she didn't, and she's the one who had to look at herself in the mirror every morning.

If she hadn't come out in support of McCain, certainly many critics would have pointed to the action as proof of lack of personal loyalty, as an act of climbing over bodies to promote her own rise. They'd have had a point if that's what she'd done. But it wasn't.

“I really wish she had not allowed her daughter to dance among the stars and certainly do not think her Alaska special did much to help her appearance to the general public.” - Bristol is 20 years old and Sarah should be giving her orders?

This would be a big one.

God is speaking to Abraham.

Genesis 12:2-3. “will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you,and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

I’m a 1,000 % Sarah supporter!! And, I greatly admire, on the whole, Israel. That said, I hope she does not forget during her upcoming presidency the incident described in Wikipedia below. As a former sailor, I haven’t! And, I am sure many others have not either. LBJ was President at the time and given his strong arm history with Congress there is little doubt that the “no investigation” fact was at the instigation of LBJ. And, if you believed the Warren Commission you can believe the Israeli attack was an accident. As for the re-imbursements by Israel, guess where those dollars came from?

The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship, USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy torpedo boats, on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War.[2] The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two Marines, and one civilian), wounded 170 crew members, and severely damaged the ship.[3] At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula, about 25.5 nmi (29.3 mi; 47.2 km) northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.[1][4]

Both the Israeli and U.S. governments conducted inquiries and issued reports that concluded the attack was a mistake due to Israeli confusion about the identity of the USS Liberty.[5] Some survivors, in addition to some U.S. diplomats and intelligence officials involved in the incident continue to dispute these official findings, saying the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty was not a mistake,[6] and it remains “the only maritime incident in U.S. history where [U.S.] military forces were killed that was never investigated by the [U.S.] Congress.”[7]

In May 1968, the Israeli government paid US$3,323,500 as full payment to the families of the 34 men killed in the attack. In March 1969, Israel paid a further $3,566,457 in compensation to the men who had been wounded. On 18 December 1980, it agreed to pay $6 million as settlement for the U.S. claim of $7,644,146 for material damage to the Liberty itself.[8]

On December 17, 1987, the issue was officially closed by the two governments through an exchange of diplomatic notes.[9]

What exactly do you suggest she do...become a historian?

It’s over. They apologized, they paid money. What else could possibly be done?

Is that something you just found out about? We fought Britain twice in two very nasty wars, invaded Canada and Mexico, took the Philippines, Cuba and Puerto Rico from Spain in a war, played some tricks on Columbia to get the land for the Panama Canal, etc, etc. War & diplomacy are not for the feint of heart.

“What exactly do you suggest she do...become a historian?”

Mr. Miller Jr sir, I’m sure the overly-aggressive and un-called for remark you made and that I quote and cut and paste above made you feel real good when you posted it.

But, since you ‘missed’ my ‘suggestion’, here IS what I want............., I want her to “remember” this incident since it happened when she was a baby. Her support for Israel being unqualified is something I agree with and apparently you do too. But 34 guys did die as a result of that attack and 170 were greivously wounded.........and the evidence is over-whelming that the attack was intentional, therefore a simple ‘apology’ and ‘paying back the families’ with money borrowed from the U.S. is simply irrelevant to my instant point. I dare say that if your son was one of the 34 killed, or he was sitting beside you in a wheelchair tonight, you would feel differently than you do.

So, in dealing with the Israeli’s, NO, she does not need a ‘historian’, she just needs a perspective.................on Israel. They are tough, tough and they can be expected to do ANYTHING, including killing our guys, gals, if it is deemed to be at some moment in time in the future to be in their National interest.

Maybe 99.9% support instead of 100.0% support?! To be sure, any support she would give Israel is a 100% more than Barry will.

Well, Mr. 2ndDivisionVet, I see you around all the time!

With respect sir!, you make my point exactly! I want Sarah to, as you put it, remember that “War & Diplomacy are not for the feint of heart”. Very well said! Thank you!

So, when I watched her interview live the other night I just felt that there was “perhaps” a little over-exuberance issuing forth from her about Israel and “perhaps”...........just “perhaps”, in her exuberance, she may be forgetting how just 44 years ago, not two centuries ago, our friend Israel got more than a little carried away one day. Maybe it was a 2nd Division Vet who once famously said “I hope we don’t FORGET the lessons we have learned from history so that we don’t repeat them again in the future”. Wanting Sarah to be a success, I just hope she does not forget the USS Liberty. You sound like a true vet, if you are, I’m sure you feel the same way.

In general I agree with you but I think Israel is in a special position. They are our one ally in the area and they really are in a precarious situation surrounded by hostile states.

Any different than Taiwan? Or South Korea? Or Japan? Or several of the captive nations, like Georgia? They are all small states surrounded by much bigger states that are hostile to them. Poland is quite small compared to Russia. Poland, unlike Israel has set their Army to help us in Afghanistan and Iraq. What assistance has Israel given us, exactly?

yet she is the only candidate that has taken a position on anything. Ridiculous claim. Yes, Palin has been outspoken about Israel for quite a while, and has stated her positions on other issues as well. So have many of the other potential candidates.

Here is one (of dozens) of issue statements by Tim Pawlenty on his website:

Statement on President Obama and the Defense of Marriage Act Source: ."I firmly believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, as President Obama told us he believed in 2008. But now President Obama and his Justice Department would have us believe that traditional marriage laws are unconstitutional. I oppose the Justice Department's political decision to reverse its policy defending the Defense of Marriage Act, a federal statute passed overwhelmingly by Congress and signed into law by President Clinton. The job of the Justice Department is to enforce and defend laws passed by Congress and signed by the President. I am disappointed that the President and his Justice Department have abdicated this responsibility, all for the sake of partisan political gain."

Many of the other candidates also have websites with their positions on the issues on them. Right now Pawlenty has a banner of his website saying "I stand with Gov. Walker" asking people to sign a petition to that effect.

It may still be that you prefer Sarah, but it is simply untrue that "she is the only candidate that has taken a position on anything.".

Let's try to stick to facts and leave the false sweeping generalizations about Republicans to the Dummies and Koz Kids.

She grossly oversells Israel but it's a prudent position for election purposes. I hope she's not so blindly loyal that she'd put Israel's agenda ahead of our own interests.

Israel has "harmed" the U.S. before in "any sense of the word 'harm'," Gov. Palin, by killing 34 sailors and injuring over 100 more on the USS Liberty.

Trust but verify.

So, noobie, you want Sarah Palin to throw Israel under the bus over a Cold War incident that happened over 40 years ago?

My point is that it is not stable, but I deduce that it would be much, much worse.

Others have made that argument. But why do we assume that Israel can only defend itself if we pay for it?

“and the evidence is over-whelming that the attack was intentional”

That is contrary to what all the government investigations state.

I appreciate your thoughtful post. I think I pick on Israel funding in this instance, and in particular Mrs. Palin's position, because sacred cows bug me. We're talking about going deeper in hock to China for billions of funny Bernanke dollars, so we can what?

The Middle East has been a craphole as long as I've been alive. I say the Christians should move all their stuff from Bethlehem Israel to Bethleham Pennsylvania. We'd be better off for it. Just kidding.

It just irritates me that it's automatically off the table to even try to shave off a billion. We're BROKE. Seriously, though, I'm willing to cut til it hurts. I'd rather do that than suffer hyperinflation. How are we going to help Israel when we're a smoking crater of overleveraged waste? We need to save ourselves!

“Bristol is 20 years old and Sarah should be giving her orders?”

I guess I am now reaching old school status. If you are a person in the limelight and under scrutiny because you want to hold a political office of great power, then it should be a family commitment to raise the bar and be a role model. The Palin’s seem to be a nice enough family, but it seems we just keep accepting more and more extra rubbish.

I want this country to turn around, regroup and have the dignity it once had.
