Ironically this resembles John C. Calhoun’s notion of giving a minority (in his day, the slaveholding elite in the South) a veto over important natioal decisions. Now the 20-25% of the voting-age citizenry that are African Americans or Hispanic (citizens only, not legal or illegal aliens) are supposed to dictate to the rest of the population who can be President. If they like Obama, the rest of the people have to shut up and accept him.

I was 21 when the first Gulf War ended and George HW Bush's approval rating was 90%. The news guy said “there's no way he can lose this next election”. I just knew at that point he had lost. I'm hoping the same for Obama now.
