While nothing in the Constitution mandates a space program, NASA (before it was politicized) created tech that has generated literally trillion of dollars of wealth in the US. Not only that, but space is now a front line in any future war with any real power. Not having space capabilities is a national defense risk of the highest order.

But OK, opt out of the benefits NASA tech has created. BTW, that means throw out your computer, never use GPS, toss your cell phone, and refuse use of most plastics if you go to the hospital.

There are places to cut. This isn’t one - at least if NASA is brought back to its real goal, space (as opposed to muslime multicult garbage and AGW junk science).

Of course our space program is not in the Constitution, but it was something Americans were proud of and has contributed to many things that have improved our everyday life, such as the satellites that help with weather forecasting, i.e. hurricanes, just one of many benefits which I don't know how you can put a price tag on. Obama isn't proud of this country and this is just another way of bringing us down another peg, IMO.

I also think you're one hell of an SOB and your reply is totally ignorant. BTW, after reading your profile, I'm still working in DoD, so I can say stuff it! My comment has nothing to do with big gov't. Satellites have probably been some of the better spent money than all the other waste that our goes into some black hole.

...provide for the common defense...

Space is the ultimate 'high ground', and satellite tracking enables us to be aware of the actions of our enemies long before we would be able to otherwise. It also enables us to position our military assets and to deploy them with far greater efficiency, especially strategic weapons should the need arise.

The civillian space program provided a test bed for much of the hardware and has never been completely divorced from military efforts.
