Republican recall candidates are getting help on the campaign trail these days from Tommy Thompson. But the real question; Is Tommy running for U.S. Senate?
There appears to be little doubt that Tommy Thompson will run for the Senate. He tells TODAY'S TMJ4's Charles Benson he has regretted every day not running in 2010 and he's sure sounding like a candidate in 2012.
When asked if he is going to run, Thompson said "As I've told everybody, I'm very serious about it."
If you are wondering if Tommy Thompson is really serious this time about running, here are two reasons why.
"You can't control the direction of this country without having the Republicans take over control of the Senate," said Thompson.
"You can't take over the Senate without having a Republican senator from Wisconsin. Who is the strongest candidate to win that seat? I believe it's myself."

We do need to win this race to win control of the Senate. In spite of the mistakes he’s made, Tommy Thompson is the strongest candidate available.
Ugh.
There’s no one ‘have to win’ senate race in 2012. Enough are in play.
Yes.
As for Thompson, not thrilled with him. He should have run for the Senate a long time ago instead of waiting for an open seat. But he looks like our strongest bet to take it.
I guess it's cause the filing deadline is 11 months from now but this race is moving slower than molasses.
If he is the strongest candidate, this is a terrible field. I don’t know anything about Wisconsin politics, but this guy was pathetic on the campaign trail and in the debates when he tried to run for president.
“You can’t take over the Senate without having a Republican senator from Wisconsin. Who is the strongest candidate to win that seat? I believe it’s myself.”
So why would he be stronger than this Mark Nuemann? Im not from the Badger State, but I’ve worked and lived there, and think very highly of Wisconsin.
Here we go again, LOL!
Neumann alienated just about everybody with his ill-conceived and stubborn race against Scott Walker in the Republican Primary for Governor. Besides, when asked why he was running against Scott he said that his wife did not want to live in DC.
That said, Thompson also has alienated just about everybody in Wisconsin with his numerous “feints” at running for office again. He just collects campaign cash, sucks up all the “face time”, and then changes his mind. And he keeps making dumb statements, such as when he left HHS in 2004: “I don’t know why the terrorists don’t attack our food supply; it would be so easy.”
Thompson also will already be in his 70’s a year before the election. Has Ryan absolutely ruled it out? It would seem to me as if bumping Ryan up to Senate and finding someone to fill his seat would be the best strategy.
Be still, my heart. Ryan has always said “no” because he thinks he can do more in the House. He was BEGGED to run last time (against Feingold), but look who we got — Ron Johnson.
I hope Ryan reconsiders and joins this race, but Feingold would probably jump in then. It’s probably a little early for a big candidate to come out. we’re still batling recall elections (next 2 weeks) and a possible recall threatened against Gov. Walker.
I’m still waiting for businessman John Ronson to run. : )
But seriously, nothing against TT, but wouldn’t a well known, experienced conservative under the age of 60 (or at least under 70) give us a better shot at winning the seat (not to mention holding it in 2016 and 2022)? I’m thinking of Congressman Ryan or AG Van Hollen.
Ryan isn’t going to run. I don’t know about Van Hollen, he was looking at it but has made no moves to run.
He is rather dull, but he has a following in Wisconsin due to having been a successful Governor.
Van Hollen would be a strong choice, if he’s interested.
It would be a shame if Thompson’s presence discourages him.
Re: Tommy. Agreed. His time is up....but that won’t stop him, LOL!
I think Walker should run-right in the middle of his first term. It will give the Pubs a chance to rub their noses in it. If he wins the Governorship will be turned over to another the Lt. Gov-another Tea Party type.
Ala Sarah? That would be interesting~ Many liberal heads would EXPLODE in this state, LOL! Love it. :)
