Pearland Councilwoman Felicia Harris announced Thursday that she has filed to run for the Republican nomination in the 14th Congressional District, which will be vacated by Rep. Ron Paul as he focuses his efforts on running for president in 2012.
For the past three years, we have seen Barack Obama and his liberal supporters enforce their social justice agenda on our nation, Harris said.
Under their leadership our economy has suffered, our freedoms have been threatened and more Americans than ever are dependent on the government. I am running for Congress to stop this assault on our fundamental principles and fight for a more limited government that spends less, taxes less and owes less debt.
Harris, a native Texan, is in the middle of her second term as a Pearland councilwoman and has served as director of the Pearland Economic Development Corp. and as Republican precint chair in Brazoria County. She is a practicing attorney who specialized in the energy sector.

A Republican primary is forming to succeed Ron Paul. Candidates are running and more are on their way. I don’t know anything about their political views. Are any of them considered Paul’s libertarian heir apparent?
Is she the one that is a LaRouche supporter?
I don’t think so.
Randy Weber is exploring a run. He is currently my State rep - was voted 2nd most conservative member of Texas House this year. He is the BEST Congressman I have ever had in the last 50 years and hope he runs - we really need him in DC. Business owner, family man, rock solid Christian and patriot, very involved in grass roots issue, is all over the area, responds to all questions - and his wife is beautiful, smart and an awesome asset.
Lots of Republicans are running or considering a run. Probably the two best choices are still undecided: former Congressman Steve Stockman (who represented all of Galveston and Jefferson Counties, both of which are in the redrawn TX-14, in Congress during the 1990s) and state rep Randy Weber. Ron Paul’s candidate in the district is John Faulk, a Ronulan who ran for Congress in the Houston-based TX-18 in 2008 and 2010: http://faulkforcongress.org/
TX-14 is one of the few TX districts that is not minority-majority yet may actually be winnable for the Democrats, particularly if ex-Congressman Nick Lampson (who beat Stockman in the Galveston-Jefferson TX-09 over a decade ago and, after losing in 2004, came back to be elected to Congress in Tom DeLay’s CD (which was partly in Brazoria County, as is the redrawn TX-14) in 2006. We need to nominate someone good.
