exas Gov. Rick Perry came out swinging in Iowa Friday, defending his record on fighting illegal immigration. His message on immigration was blindsided and overwhelmed early in his campaign when his GOP opponents highlighted the Texas Dream Act, a 2001 law that allows children of illegal immigrants in Texas to attend state universities at in-state tuition rates.

Earlier today, at the Values Voters Summit in Florida, Perry vehemently declared that he will not support any type of amnesty policy for "those who have broken out laws to get here."
Later in Iowa, he expanded on his record.

yeah right, I heard what he said in the debates
Sorry, he has already made his objections or rather his excuses clear already... This is unfortunately one of his faults and will NOT change with any of his attempts to change the issue... Better than Obama - you bet!
I don’t believe it...maybe I’m too HEARTLESS to understand.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t come out swinging against illegal immigration in Texas very often. I suppose it’s safer in Iowa.
Perry ping
How dare he fight illegal immigration so hard?
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
People change. Rick Perry is waking up to the fact that what worked for him in Texas on illegal immigration will not fly with Republican primary voters. That he will lose if he persists in Texas mode. Nothing wrong with a politician catering to voters when the voters are ahead of him and are right.
Perry should really wise up and figure out that getting strict on illegal immigration will do very well in the general election too, running against the open borders Obama our Kenyan 3rd world president. Why would a 3rd world president not want open borders? Conversely, why would a tough and honest Texan not want enforcement of our borders and our immigration laws?
You dont get elected Governor of the most conservative state in the union three times if youre not doing a good job. Perry has a solid conservative executive governing record for the last 11 years. Hes worked hard to keep his state competitive in creating jobs, keeping taxes low with restraints on spending. Along with serious tort reform and reductions in regulations.
Perry is a Reagan conservative, all the way!
And I don't think we've even gotten around to his explaining why Texas has about 35-40% of all of Americas illegal aliens residing within its borders mostly under his watch.
[Spamming a thread with a mocking graphic, rather than making an argument. This is fun!]
I predict he’ll be the frontrunner by Memorial Day.
“Perry is a Reagan conservative, all the way!”
Interesting, why would Perry then want to reverse what Reagan did? hmmmmmmm?
Yes...one of his weakest points! I just don’t understand it except that it is politically popular - ie. bribes, paybacks, other incentives...

That’s easy... Kalifornia is almost full and Texas A&M is starting to look really good! (Go Texas Tech... kick those Faggie asses!)
Yep I bet that's what he was doing here in his speech at LaRaza...
Yada yada yada
