I don't get it. Why do so many wackos and outright lunatics support Ron Paul? Just what is it about him that attracts such crazies?
Exhibit A. The following exchange occurred on Facebook tonight:
Louis Farrakhan endorses Ron Paul
Ronnie: Ooops...
Amy: lol!
Ozzie: Its funny because it says endorses Ron Paul. But yet what he does is praise Ron Paul's will and determination to fight the illegal Federal Reserve. If you dont agree with that, then your a hopeless case.
Ronnie: You don't get it, Ozzie. No Republican politician who wants to stay in good standing with the conservative community wants Farrakhan saying nice things about him. Farrakhan is evil incarnate to the right.
Ozzie: And why is he evil? Because he speaks out also? Tells the truth about alot of subjects most wont even approach?
Ozzie: Why is the truth so hard to grasp for so called "Conservatives"?
Ozzie: If your a true conservative there is only one person to support.. Ron Paul the only true conservative to run for president. Most claim they are conservative, but just watching Fox News does not make you right, in fact it will make you look ignorant

I am not a Ron Paul fan, per se, in part because I believe Israel deserves favorist treatment, but the answer to your question is simple.
Ron Paul is “crazy” and supported by “crazies” because WE as a nation have in fact become “crazy.” We are SO FAR from the Founders’ guiding principles that almost any path - even if it is a path which should return us to those principles - seems to lead to darkness.
Most of them are young, earnest and in search of simple solutions to complex problems. RP’s brand of libertarian freedom appeals to the sex/drugs/rock-roll crowd (not that there is anything wrong with that). I wish Gary Johnson (the sane RP) would be getting some air time, but it looks like the enemy-media is going to cram either Newt or Mitt down our throats. Relax and enjoy it.
They must recognize a kindred spirit in Ron.
It is the legalization of Drugs, they are stoners and also do not want to ever be drafted, They are anti war.
They support him because he’s weak on foreign policy and would be a pushover for the enemies of Israel and for that matter, for the enemies of America. He means well and is obviously committed to smaller government and less intrusion into privacy, which are good things. But if he has the likes of Farrakhan behind him, that’s mainly because he would offer the least protection to Israel, of all major presidential candidates (perhaps even including Obama, or maybe it’s a tie).
If Ron Paul would have a “lightbulb moment” about his international and security policies, he might turn out to be the best hope for American recovery. But there’s no point in saving the nation’s economy if you then allow her enemies to pick off other free countries one by one, that just postpones for perhaps one generation the day when America will have to stand alone against a much more hostile world than we see today. Is that one generation of prosperity worth the risk? And beside that, America has a moral obligation to Israel that Ron Paul and friends reject. I would put it this way — America bases its security and integrity on God’s providence. God is the God of Israel. It’s a covenant, comes with the territory. Ron Paul says he is a born-again Christian, but this weak spot in his armour is more typical of atheists and liberals.
Perhaps some are, but I think a lot of his supporters are just mentally unbalanced anarchists. They're misfits who don't fit in any other camp.
Who else but a nut would support Paul?
Well, ya see, it’s really kinda simple. Lunatics like to support other lunatics, but in today’s political environment it’s a bit hard to decide who the real lunatic is.
However, since most people agree that Ron Paul is a lunatic, and say so, all the other lunatics figure he’s got to be the guy to support.

If you call abiding by the Constitution and everything It stands for “crazy”, then you can call me crazy too. I don’t agree with his stance on Israel, but everything else he’s been saying is no different than what most Conservatives believe and that’s basically smaller, less intrusive government, less taxes, a strong and secure border, a government that abides by the Constitution rather than ignores it. He’s a man who is pro-life, pro-God, pro-Second Amendment. He’s more in line with the TEA Party than those who call themselves Republicans. What you will find with Ron Paul is that he’s consitent. I find it interesting that somehow all these Conservative ideas are now considered “crazy”.

We're not all crazy. In fact, I'd say that sane folks are still in the majority in America.
But I get your point. Seems there's a lost segment of the population that gloms onto Ron Paul because they see a kindred spirit in him.
Some of those “lunatics” also used to support Free Republic. The hostility toward this man who, more than any other member of Congress, has tried to adhere to the Constitution, has driven most of them away.
Don't forget the certifiably insane, and wacked out conspiracy theorists. Ron's their guy.
the flaw in the ronPaulista organization is that it is a personality cult. When 2016 comes around, who will the support? ronPaul will be older and dead or something.
Thankfully, it is unsustainable.
They like being terminally unique. They would feel very uncomfortable at a GOP victory party when they looked around the room and saw a bunch of people that were not true believers. It is easier to keep your movement pure if you always lose.
