I stumbled across this speech by U.S.Grant and was struck how consistent the political issues are across the decades.
Any of the Republican candidates could, or should, use this speech with very few modications.

Why I am a Republican? Because the time hasn't quite come for conservatives, such as myself, to finally get fed up enough by being treated like slaves on a plantation to abandon it and form a 3rd party.

The date is probably 1880. Grant died in 1885.

You should read some of Robert Green Ingersol’s speeches. He was also an oratior in the 1800’s. Great stuff.
