Sarah Palin: If I were campaigning for president...
The Washington Post ^ | December 31, 2011

Edited on 12/31/2011 12:02:53 PM PST by Admin Moderator. [history]

She isn’t running, but if she were, what would Sarah Palin be talking about on the trail?

Given the concerns I have for some of the Republican field’s focus thus far, I must implore the candidates to do something that sounds self-promoting, but whatever. Candidates, please turn to Chapter Three of “Going Rogue” and read what it takes for our country to step toward energy independence. Note the lesson I share in the same chapter about taking on the “elite,” the crony capitalists and the permanent political establishment to get a job done.

Since it's hard to find "articles" about the subject anymore.

You might want to do a Google, Bing or Yahoo search of the word “Palin” to disabuse you of your fallacious notion.

2nd Div...

Do you even know what FAN FICTION is?

Understanding the context of my post is difficult for you.

Here’s a definition that should help.

Fanfiction is a work of fiction written by fans for other fans, taking a source text or a famous person as a point of departure. It is most commonly produced within the context of a fannish community and can be shared online such as in archives or in print such as in zines. Writing fanfiction is an extremely widespread activity in media fandom; millions of stories have been written,[1] and thousands more are written daily.

Origins
From prehistory, stories were built on other stories, extending, extending, and sometimes subverting them. For example, Virgil’s Aeneid is explicitly a follow-on to the Iliad, linking the Roman origin myth to Greek heroes. Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales is partly a reworking of other stories, including some from Boccaccio’s Decameron[2]. Shakespeare’s history plays are like Real People Fiction, while many of his comedies and tragedies are based on Italian, classical, and other existing stories[3].

In 2004, the Writers University compiled a timeline of the history of fan fiction, starting (somewhat tongue in cheek) with the invention of paper and ending with the fanfiction.net archive. By 2008, a poll on EW’s PopWatch Fan fiction: do you write it? poll was answered by 35% as ‘yes’, and 37% as ‘I read it’.

Scope
Fanfiction takes a lot of forms and does a lot of different things. Some fanfiction seeks to close loopholes in a source text (see fix-its) or to explore character motivations; some fanfiction is designed to co-exist with canon (see Case Stories and Episode Tags), and some is designed to branch off from canon (AUs); some fanfiction turns minor characters into protagonists of their own stories, or uses minor characters’ eyes to see a different perspective on the major characters; some fanfiction translates a given story into a new genre (e.g. from television series into noir detective film, or epic poem into screenplay form.) Fanfiction can create backstory, or age up characters and leap into futurefic. It can show the depth of two partners’ knowledge of each other (see Broccoli Test). It can transform mundane shows into fantasy or sf, with attributes like Elves, Bodyswaps, Mpreg and Wingfic. Fanfiction can contrast and compare different shows by crossing them over or fusing them together.

The article you posted is by very definition a piece of fanfiction.

That’s why I want to know why it is considered news.

The Washington Post did its job. It got you to read this piece of drivel, post it, and link it back to its website.

It is therapeutic, in an ironic way, to read the 150+ comments to the WP 'article' with more coming in every minute. It reminds us of the seething hatred for the truth out there. If I were Gov. Palin, it just might make me angry enough to reconsider.

BTW, the WP doesn't need hits.

FUR69. Where were you the last 3 years when she was taking the brunt of the criticism? Where were you when she was the single biggest factor in our taking back the House of Representatives and many state houses? What have you done? Did you clean up a corrupt state and send people to jail? And when did it become a bad thing to work and provide for your family? What do you do for a living?

Perhaps it is time for people to quit blaming Piper and Track.

Politicians always use family to make decisions though they are rarely the real reason they make choices. They are just convenient.

I have the book read it.. and shes right..

Cheap energy is at the base of americas economic well being..
Expensive energy forces literally everything to be more expensive..
Americas tar sands and shale has more oil than the entire mideast..
And we have enough natural gas to last for a thousand years.. and we haven’t found it all yet..

Not to speak of the oil off the east coast that hasn’t even been measured accurately yet.. or any of it drilled
Going after this energy would create millions of new jobs..

AND if we could loose a few hundred democrats out of Congress there could be massive rush to build factories in the U.S...

Sharing a little bitty pie is silly compared to making a humongous new large PIE...

As a high schooler, my son was arrested for murder. 20 years later they caught the real killer. But we were in the press and on local TV for 2 years. I even got anonymous hate mail. He spent 18 months in jail and was released by a judge but it was always bad. His younger siblings were deeply affected.

I believe that children wanting to be left alone would sway a parent's decision.

The insults against Palin and her family haven't stopped. They've been going on from the moment she became a major conservative figure, and they aren't going to stop because she didn't run for President. Palin's current career choices are going to keep her in the spotlight - including realityTV shows (I hear there is another one on the way), political commentary for Fox, radio appearances, paid speeches, etc, and there is no reason to believe her decision to stay out of the race will do much to reduce the insults hurled against her family.

Sorry, but you believe Palin on this because you like her so much it blinds you. That's okay, that is human nature to see things differently when it is someone you feel such a connection to. If it were any other politician who ran the "will I or won't I" tease campaign all the way to near the last possible second, I seriously doubt you'd believe they didn't run because a couple of the kids apparently didn't like the idea.

For most clear minded political analysts, it was pretty obvious by late spring/early summer that Palin wasn't running. She had done exactly none of the things she'd need to do to run a campaign, and it was pretty clear Fox News was comfortable she wasn't going to run. I'm sorry you and others refused to see it for so long and insisted she was going to jump in the race. Palin made a political calculation early on, most likely that she couldn't win a general election, and essentially opted out without declaring as much till later. It appears she kept her options open (the wisdom of which is questionable considering the angst it caused so many of her supporters), but at the end of the day this was mostly a political calculation. Oh sure, a couple of the kids may not have liked the idea, but she made the decision not to run based on political considerations. Had she wanted to run, I've no doubt she could have easily sold the kids on the idea.

It took Sarah Palin with her new baby and young Piper to consider, what was it reportedly 24 hours maybe, to say yes to McCain’s campaign? It took months for the two children to be served up, finally, as her excuse to say “no” to her own campaign. The family/children consideration was nowhere in sight when it was just show up and bark. That dog won’t hunt.

They'd been talking to her for awhile. It was more than 24 hrs.

In 2008 no one knew what attacks were coming their way. By 2011 everyone knew what a marxist/Alinsky attack was like.

She had NO way of knowing in 2008 the reaction of Obama supporters and his press. She, and the kids, know now.

RE:"For most clear minded political analysts, it was pretty obvious by late spring/early summer that Palin wasn't running."

I thought it was obvious too especially by last Spring.

She would have been suspended by FNC in the early Spring when Newt and Santurum were if she intended on running. What was amazing was while she was on the FNC Greta show giving her opinion of the candidates many here were still swearing that she WAS running AND that she could/would just quit FNC at any time and at the same time announce her candidacy, as late as September. As if that would fly. But they knew, no amount of evidence could change that, she was going to run an UNCONVENTIONAL campaign, FNC played up that angle as long as they could. Remember the claim that a critical ethics deadline was keeping her from announcing until late summer? That one was beat to death. They kept being made up.
