The 2012 White House contender Michele Bachmann is projecting herself as Americas Margaret Thatcher ahead of the January 3aucuses.
What we needed [in 1980] was the most articulate conservative we had to hold Jimmy Carter responsible and we got Ronald Reagan. And at the same time across the ocean there was another country, an ally of ours called Britain. Britain was also suffering under socialist policies. They needed a strong conservative too and up rose a woman and her name was Margaret Thatcher, The Telegraph quoted Bachmann, as saying.
She was the Iron Lady and she led Britain back to prosperity too. Right now in the United States, we need another strong conservative who can stand up. We need another Margaret Thatcher, another Iron Lady. Thats what I want to do. I want to be Americas Iron Lady, Americas Margaret Thatcher, she added.
Bachmann faces a tough battle to be re-elected to Congress in her home state of Minnesota after she came under fire for highlighting that she was born in Iowa but adopted the former as her home state.
She also suffered a setback due to the defection of her campaign manager and Iowa state senator Kent Sorenson, to Ron Paul.
A Political Action Committee also switched from backing Bachmann to Romney for the poll, which further exacerbated her woes.
Leading Christians have predicted that the social conservative vote would be split between Bachmann, Texas Governor Rick Perry and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum,
But Bachmann is continuing to campaign with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm.
Some of her supporters, however, were doubtful that Bachmann would be the front-runner.
I think shes Sarah Palin with even more brains and even more charm. But shes so far behind in the polls that I dont think she can do it. Im looking for somebody whos almost guaranteed electable against Obama and my fear is that Michele might struggle against him, a US citizen, Caroline Richer said.
My neck hairs sense that in time I will come to really dislike her.
Der Führer?
The stupid headline makes it sound like she’s a megalomanic.
She said she’d aspire to be our Thatcher.
Why not ? None of the male candidates can do that.
Also, MN redistricting hasn’t happened yet but I doubt she’d have a tough reelection battle. If she does it will have nothing to do with her being born in Iowa.
She should aspire to get some accomplishments under her belt and stop telling us her daydreams.
That is the truth of it, she is appealing to look at and listen to usually as she says the things that we like to hear, but she is no leader, she has no accomplishments in her years in office, and the House leadership and all other men handle her pretty easily.
We should just be happy for her to keep a Congressional seat and vote well, as she does.
I don’t know where they got their facts from, but I live just outside Michele’s district by a few miles and though she’s been under fire for many things, never once do I recall her being under fire for being born in Iowa.
Happy New Year FReepers!
Well the article says it’s from ANI, Asian News International. A foreign wire service.
That could explain their bizarre ignorance.
Happy New Year.
She’s “accomplished” more than Obama or Romney (oh wait that’s right he “saved the Olympics”). Also she’s manged to pull off not voting like a RINO or having bizarre liberal positions.
LOL, good one.
Sad and pathetic.
I imagine it must be too difficult to be head of the Tea Party caucus and get your initiatives passed. She’s mandated to introduce legislation that is too conservative for the rest of the House, by definition. And she’s not the Speaker or the Majority Leader, so she doesn’t have the power that they do to muscle around like Pelosi did and garner the votes.
If we get more Republicans and more conservative Republicans in office next time, she might be able to get better results.
Whatever happens in the election, we have been watching history in the debates. She battled with the men on their level and held her own. Women have different voices from those of men, so think about that when you observe her trying to be heard above the tenors and bassi.
I intend to see the Thatcher movie, even though it is negative toward Thatcher. Bachmann has picked a great role model. Kudos.
She couldn’t get a leadership position because Cantor ate her lunch and gave the position to Herzlinger, something which set me off on an FR tangent for awhile, but now I know that she just doesn’t have the it factor, she does not have whatever the ‘it’ factor is that can lead to change and effective leadership.
There is something missing from the Bachmann package, and something that we will all see in time.
proclaim and aspire are two different things
I totally agree with you.
When she is on stage or in front of a camera, she can feel us, reflect us, speak for us, but off that stage she is useless among the policy makers, cutthroats, and deal makers.
She is more like a wonderful public relations agent or spokeswoman, her talent in politics is to serve the cause, not lead it, or create anything.
Not everyone has what it takes to be president. That’s not a slam on her or any of the candidates - it’s just a fact. We are talking about leading the greatest nation on the earth and dealing w/heads of countries. One needs to be well rounded, well versed, and well skilled with true leadership qualities.
I think we can agree that’s with most careers - those that excel are those who are doing what comes natural for them - with their natural giftings. And I wouldn’t say she’s holding her own - who really is challenging her? And why would they - she’s not a threat and never has been. They just let her rant, IMO.
