Santorum won more counties but he did not win “overall”. Unfortunately, the overall win went to the liberal Mitt Romney.

I am liking Santorum more and more. I just CANNOT vote for Romney no matter what. I voted for him four years ago in PA in the primary even though RINO McCain was already the candidate and I know a lot more about him now and I don’t believe anything Romney says!!!!! Iowa is a Santorum state!

Our politicians always seem to be the people who are popular in the inner cities.

One of these days, we will see a candidate run on a platform of "Let's screw the rural folks! No taxes for folks who live in the cities!" That candidate will win all the major population centers and will be unstoppable.

Hi "dirtboy."

Rick Perry can put the lie to the "dumb" MSM beat-down stick. Can your candidate put the lie to their record; can any of the others?

When it come time to go toe to toe with Obama, we need the candidate that is not an inside the Beltway politician; we need the governor (successful executive) with the record of job creation and social conservatism -- the consistent conservative that shines a strong, distinct line between him and Obama.

Gov, Perry is the man who has, is and will be on the front line battling Washington D.C.'s overreach and dictates to the states. If Perry does withdraw, I will be disappointed because he is the best choice for the country and for stability in the world.

Without Gov. Perry as our nominee, I fear Romney will prevail, giving Obama his second term and us socialize medicine and a socialist Supreme Court -- all will be lost to future generations.

Comment by FReeper “thecodont”

“I looked over the Iowa Caucus results per the map at iowacaucus.com, and saw something that interested me (though I am not a political analyst). Of the 99 Iowa counties, Perry carried two outright (Gingrich did not) and Perry at least placed (was one of the top four selected) in 38 of the 99 counties (this is 36 plus the two he carried). There seemed to be more support for him in the central, western and southern counties of the state. That tells me that there is indeed support for Perry out there, even where he didn’t obviously have it, and things are not as dismal as they seem. He spent money in Iowa and Texas supporters went there, and this is the result. It’s not great, it didn’t win him the caucuses, but it’s not as if he was invisible either. Food for thought, at least.”

I was speaking to county wins. I could have been clearer.

You are correct. Mitt won with 24.6% -- hardly something to crow about but a "win" no less.

Fox News is happy. Now they will begin the campaign against Santorum, using his record against him.

Once again, YOUR GUY is giving it a rest. Why don’t you quit bashing those still actively running with a chance to beat Mitt, until such time that Perry makes a final decision? All YOU are doing now is helping Romney. You have NO EXCUSES for continuing in this manner. NONE. Your candidate was wise enough to step back and reconsider. Learn from him.

Perry’s scam is coming to a close. He spent millions of crony money in Iowa and Iowans weren’t buying his bullcrap any more than most FReepers buy your tiresome can of Perry SPAM you offer up 24/7.

Mitt Romney won major population centers.

True. They are also the much more liberal parts of Iowa.

The only three viable candidates that we have left are Santorum, Perry and Bachmann. I will vote for any of those three... I will not take part in attacking any of them. They are all flawed but all the best of what is left of a poor slate of candidates. You get one of those three nominated and I will vote for them.
