John McCain: Choosing Sarah Palin was the 'best decision I ever made'

Arizona U.S. Senator and former Republican presidential candidate John McCain reflected on his 2008 campaign earlier this week, saying choosing former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has his running mate was “the best decision” he has ever made.

Mr. McCain made the comment during an appearance on Fox News, where he also took time to promote his 2008 rival, Mitt Romney, whose Republican presidential candidacy he endorsed last week, after Mr. Romney won the Iowa caucus by eight votes.

The Arizona Republican has previously said he stands by his decision to choose Ms. Palin as the Republican presidential candidate for vice president in 2008. A number of Republicans have criticized Mr. McCain’s decision, saying his campaign failed to research Ms. Palin’s past political positions, adding that the Alaska Republican’s unpopularity among liberal conservatives doomed his campaign.

Ms. Palin, for her part, has spent the past several weeks offering her thoughts and opinions on the upcoming 2012 race for the Republican primary. Speaking earlier this month, Ms. Palin said she remains interested in possibly endorsing a candidate in the Republican race, however, it remains unclear whether she will back one of the candidates.

“McCain found his person much sooner than I’m able to find that person,” Ms. Palin told Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity on Wednesday. She added: “I’m still in that process with probably 70 percent of Americans trying to decide.”

The Alaska Republican, however, noted that regardless of whether she endorses a candidate for the Republican nomination, she remains committed to defeating President Obama in 2012.

“John McCain’s endorsement of Mitt Romney is a reminder that we must have as our aim defeating Obama and the socialist, big-government, job-defeating policies” of his administration, said Ms. Palin. “We still have many months to decide who can best lead us to progress this country.”

Who cares.

The worst decision he ever made was to run for POTUS in the first place.

Sucking up to Romney even now won’t save his sorry senator ass as history is logged.

I think it’s because he knows if he picked some milquetoast he would have suffered a defeat worse than Alf Landon did.

He’s right. I probably would have stayed home that day and a lot of other Republicans wouldn’t have got my vote. In my case, Sarah had skirt tails.

He was winning! They had to put the kabosh on that! Mr. Obama couldn’t “make history” as a loser.

How can you choose the likes of Sarah Palin as your VP but endorse Romney. Wow! That’s like taking e-lax and Keopectate both in one shot glass.

Without the pressure of y’know getting elected, McCain is free to endorse whom he pleases.

We listened to the McCains in 2008.

How’d that work out for conservatives?

I think once again the old codger is lying.

To which I might add directly, to the distinguished Senator --and his lovely daughter (and perhaps there will be an "Amen Chorus" on FR for this), a most heartfelt and obligatory:

A prediction;

A republican convention strangled by lack of agreement on a candidate. Mitt is #1 choice, but the party is so divided, there is no real consensus. Back door, smoke filled rooms, agreement is reached. Mitt steps back, Sara accepts nomination, with Mitt as VP (she has been agreeing with him a lot. Super headlines for weeks. Sara has avoided all the negative lead up press. The Mainstream media has been nice to Mitt, as he was their preferred guaranteed loser choice,. Obama can only stand by as the Republican party is united. I can go on but start thinking how this fixes many negatives?

Nice thought and I would love Sarah being the nominee.

But the GOP elite machine would NEVER allow a true, Reagan conservative to become the nominee.

If there is a brokered convention, the only outsider the GOP machine would choose is Jebby the Bush.

ugh.....this is disgusting!!!!
