Osteen: Romney "believer in Christ, like me"
CBS This Morning ^ | January 16, 2012 | CBS This Morning

Posted on 01/16/2012 9:22:12 AM PST by Saundra Duffy

(CBS News) Pastor Joel Osteen, one of America's most popular religious figures, said on "CBS This Morning" that GOP candidate Mitt Romney believes in Jesus like he does.

"What I see about Governor Romney is that he says, 'I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God, he's raised from the dead and he's my savior.' I see him as being a believer in Christ, like me."

Charlie Rose said, "That's enough for you?"

"That's enough for me," Osteen said. "There's differences in all religion. I realize Mormonism is different from Christianity, but you know what, he's a man of faith and values. And to me, that's strong."

Osteen only needs to read the Book of John. It will tell him everything that he needs to know about becoming a Born Again Christian.

I see you are continuing the process of supporting Willard Romney by attempting to equate MORMONISM and Christianity.

This is a blatant lie, demeans Christianity by making God into an idol and perverts the Gospel of Grace of our Savior. I am pinging Jim Robinson and the Moderator in case they missed your latest post.

It is actually pretty straightforward. Mormons are not Christians. Doesn’t make them bad people, just not Christian. When a pastor of any Christian church screws that most basic thing up, it calls into question their understanding of Christianity.

Moral equivalency does not a Christian make. You either believe Christ is the son of God sent for ALL mankind and ONLY though him can we come to the Father, or you do not. If you do not (and mormons do not) then you are not a Christian even if you have the name Jesus Christ in the title of your church.

I only know Mormons, or LDS, as they call themselves. I do not claim to know anything of the inner workings of their church.

I am sure there any number of people who are so knowledgeable, they could surely make the effort to “educate” me.

But I do respect their work ethic and their personal honor in business dealings.

“When I watch Pastor Osteen’s program I have a witness of the Holy Ghost in my heart. “

And this is the same “witness” that told you to join a cult that teaches Jesus is a created being who later became one of trillions of mormon gods??

Your Holy Ghost is wrong.

I'm sorry Saundra, but I must add to the chorus here who believe that Osteen is a fraud.

I've seen many "name it and claim it" prosperity preachers come and go over the years and all they leave in their wake is poverty and disillusionment. I have had friends whose faith was nearly destroyed by this heresy when the "heavenly vending machine" failed to give them what they thought they deserved. Prosperity teaching is a clear abomination as it turns God's true teaching on its head.

Think about it for a second: If God truly wanted everyone to be wealthy in this life, then why weren't his apostles all wealthy men? Why didn't He come, as many were mistakenly expecting, as a triumphant king bestowing Earthly riches on everyone?

It is crystal clear from reading the Bible that God's primary desire is not for us to be materially wealthy but rather for us to be HUMBLE. Unless we die to ourselves and our own selfish nature we cannot live in Him. Never forget that He desires what is BEST for us, which is often quite different from what we DESIRE for ourselves.

We should also remember that we live in a fallen world. It's like we are passengers on the Titanic (or the Costa Concordia), and while God is calling us to cast off everything that is not essential and to rescue as many others as we can, Joel Osteen is instead telling everyone to go back inside and claim the finest cabin, eat the best food, drink the finest wine, and enjoy the ride to the bottom because surely God wants us to be comfortable and to have the "best." Can you not see the deception in this?

How strange that so many people watch Pastor Osteen’s program and attend his church. Funny - they call themselves Christian, too. It seems that the judges of who’s a Christian and who’s not congregate here on FR - it’s like a religion they have created - one that condemns everyone who doesn’t believe exactly as they do to hell. Very strange indeed but very telling.

If you do not believe that THE Holy Bible is THE Word of THE living God and therefore THE Truth then you are going to hell and I will not be damning you to it, you choose it yourself. If you believe in and hold as truth, LIES about the ONE and ONLY Son of the living God, Jesus Christ; then you are bound for hell and I cannot stop you. If you do not accept THE ONLY TRUE Jesus of the Holy Bible as your Lord and Saviour, then you are bound for the pit.

The Jesus of that pack of idiotic lies the BoM, is a created imagination of a con-man by the name of Joseph Smith, may he burn forever and ever amen.

“My husband and I watch Pastor Osteen’s program every chance we get. We feel a kinship”

At least twice on national TV, Joel Osteen hemmed and hawed when asked if Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven-—he just couldn’t seem to get it out. Recently, he claimed that homosexuals will inherit the kingdom of heaven (in direct contradiction of Scripture).

If you feel a kinship with Osteen, it’s time to be extremely concerned.

Joel Osteen tries to be all things to all people. Of course, that’s why he’s made millions off of this stuff.

“Where in the Bible does it specifically say that Mormons are not Christians?”

A Christian as defined by the Lord Jesus Christ in THE Holy Bible is a follower of Him. Not someone that reads or writes a fictional Book of Lies, creating a fictional jesus that had as his brother, the Devil.

That’s NOT a Christian.

The devil is an angel of light. It would be more strange for a deceiver to have small crowds, not large.

Saundra,

I have 2 questions and I bet you will not answer both outright.

1. If you believe the Mormon church is right, why do you want to call yourself a Christian?

2. The Trinity consist of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Do you believe Jesus is God?

If you don’t believe in the same God, how can you be of the same religion?

Watch interviews with him. He refuses to ever answer simple questions of Christian orthodoxy in a straight manner.

We need to pray that Saundra’s eyes are opened. God told us to be a light in this dark world and this is a site you see many people shining the light of truth. I Am seeing a lot of Mormons who want to call themselves Christians. I would never want to be anything but a Christian. I think they know something is wrong but are afraid they will be condemned if they leave their church.

Although I would agree that anyone making an honest read of the Scriptures would see the error, in this case I’m sure Osteen has already read it. But apparently he lacks any exegetical skill whatsoever...a good seminary course in proper exegesis might clue him in.
