MONTROSE, CO - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum took a new jab at Newt Gingrich, saying he wants to "endanger" the former Speaker.
The dig came during a campaign rally in Montrose, CO., as Santorum railed against the federal government's environmental regulations.
"These are your lands! Oh but they always say we're doing it for your benefit," Santorum decried.
"We'll make sure that you don't do something to scar the land or you don't do something to endanger a newt. No not that Newt, different newt. I want to endanger that Newt - that's a different story."
The line drew laughter from the audience but Santorum has been serious in sharpening his attacks on Gingrich in recent weeks....

This guy is getting on my last nerve. It’s clear what his agenda is...a Romney win so that he can get the VP slot. SOS-’Sell Out Santorum’.
The more Santorum does this, the more I think he is a vindictive putz, and Romney bot—ERGO, NOT as Conservative as he portends! He is doing all he can against Newt, but virtually nothing against ROmney or Obama...for that alone, he has lost what respect I ever had for him.
He is acting like a spoiled brat, and I do not want that in a POTUS! We already HAVE that!!
Santorum is making me dislike him more by the moment!!

Romney would be a fool to choose this guy as VEEP. He delivers pretty much nothing and he certainly won’t galvanize the conservative base as Sarah did.

Santorum needs to join forces with Newt so we don’t end up with Hussein or Hussein lite. Then they can promise Paul a head honcho position so it’s all three of them against the establishment.
Don’t think so. He delivers a pseudo-conservatism and the anti-abortion bit which Romney does not have. Otherwise, how do we explain his still being in the race AND his going after Newt instead of pro-abort Romney?
For someone who just yesterday said he’s positive and has’nt been down and dirty like Myth and Newt, Rick is surely making his family and friends proud. :eyeroll: Know this Rick, I won’t vote for you or Mitt or Crazy uncle Paul either. It’s clear that you are just a member of the three stooges.
Santorum exhibiting the same childish behavior of Romney and the Dims - wit is good, but the matter at hand should not be relegated to 5th grade humor bites.
I don’t think he’s spoiling anything. As long as he’s in the race, he’s pulling delegates from Romney. Repeated polls show his support would scatter if he dropped so he’s doing Newt a favor by staying in.
Also, he’s putting out some effective ads against Romney. Doesn’t matter what he says about Newt because it’s old news but he could still do some damage to Romney.
I don’t think that was ad-libbed. I think it was just the sort of eyebrow-raising comment Santorum probably hopes will jump-start his campaign. Largely, a joke.
