Remember Reagan too, lost 6 primary contest before becoming the GOP nominee in 1976

I think it would help the author's point if remembered correctly what he is asking us to remember.

Left wondering who doesn’t know this already, and shake my head for those who don’t.

The answer is hidden in plain sight and we’re jacking around with a junior jerk who needs a job, while our country is imploding.

It is too incredible for words really.

It is getting more and more difficult to believe that Americans have any intellegence left, as indicated by their lack of respect and appreciation for intellegence, for a real record, or even for accomplishment of historic proportion.

If it comes out of no-where-ville, if it’s hyper and walks and talks, could fit in on American Idol, that seems to be plenty good enough for prez. Oh, and does religious speak for the natives, then we’re all set.

Nevermind about the rare Churchills among us who possibly have never heard of American Idol.

God help us.

If you’re going to put your best puncher in the fight, you want the hardest hitter.

No, you want the most skilled and disciplined tactician. That's been Newt's problem the past 12 years. He has no discipline. He throws wild haymakers on the off-chance it might KO his opponent. Give me somebody who stays on message and doesn't lose focus. Unfortunalety, the only one of the four remaining who fits that description is Ron Paul.

I caught Rick on Greta tonight and I honestly was trying to pay close attention but his delivery just su**s...

It’s unfortunate that he still comes off so whiney, imho.

Actually Dr. Gingrich is the one who has been moving and shaking the nation with his profound words.

Speaker Gingrich’s discipline and tactics created a large portion of American history and created a Reagan legacy in the American legislature.

That little douche bag from my old congressional district in Texas never amounted to much, I suppose that is why he never accomplished anything.

the problem with Newt is that too many Conservatives don’t trust him. He say one thing and does another

A lot of Republicans simply don't know that Newt is a candidate, because they aren't reading, seeing, or hearing what we do. If you look at most of the media, Newt is barely mentioned. When he is mentioned, the media usually qualifies the statements by saying he can't win or he's not a serious candidate. Newt doesn't have the Romney money to get his name and policy positions out there for voters, and the GOPe is dead set against him.

Yeah, unlike Ricky, Milt and Wrong. They're paragons of consistency.

.If there was a fracturing within the democrat party with members willing to disagree with its current leadership there would be a basis to elect a guy like Romney.

Alas there are no Proxmires, no Moynihans and really no liberals either in the democrat party . Their party is composed of fascists but that is their problem..Not ours.Ours is. We need candidates who couragiously identify those programs such as Eugenics desipte what Obama defenders in the (and they don’t believe they are fascist) MSM repeat... Who’s getting nailed the most on this ? And has your candidate dven broached the subject ?

4rcane: “the problem with Newt is that too many Conservatives don’t trust him. He say one thing and does another”

That may be the perception, but I think it’s an inaccurate one. Newt brought us the Contract with America, and he governed as a conservative. He’s said and done some less-than-conservative things since then, but when it came to “doing” he did what he said he was going to do. As for the things since, he’s explained or apologized for them to my satisfaction.

“Wrong” is consistent. He’s consistently good on some issues, like smaller government, but terribly, horribly, consistently bad on others, like national defense. Of course he’s not in this to win it. “Wrong” never had the slightest chance of winning.

He takes earmarks of all kinds for his district, all the while voting “no” on them, knowing they’ll pass without his vote.

I agree. We need a clear choice this November, and let the chips fall where they may. If we’re really at the point where a majority favor the neo-fascist and wealth redistributionist policies of the new Democrat party, so be it. What we don’t need is someone, like Romney, who literally stands for nothing and offers no clear distinction between his policies and Obama’s. Like you wrote, he can’t even appeal to disaffected Democrats, because he offers so little in contrast to what President Obama is already doing. Romney is Obama lite.

As an Expat living offshore since 2004, I can only look
from online as to how badly America has fallen since I left.

With a fully Marxist media and educational system, I find it really hard to see how America can survive, much less return to the grand days when Ronald Reagan was president.

As for the election this year, all of the candidates are flawed, but any of them would be better then the Marxist Obumbo.
As I look back to the “Contract With America”, I think Newt is probably the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it is becoming obvious that the RINOS will prevail.

I fear that only God can save America now, and he is not talking.

Excellent points 2DV - these are also the same people that say that Ron Paul is "not electable"... and in nationwide polls, Paul is the only GOP candidate that would appear to have a chance of beating Obama.
So logically, the GOP should rally behind Paul, as the only candidate with a statistical chance of beating Obama.
[Bwahahahahaha!]

Not only women but the "electabity" idiots. Romney, to them, is the most electable candidate with an R next to his name. If they are somewhat conservative, ask them why they are voting for him. They'll literally tell you they have some serious doubts about whether or not he's conservative (DUH!), but that he's the "only one who can beat Obama." I don't want to be impolite, but "idiot" is the word that best describes such a mentality. They know Romney isn't conservative. They know Romney is going to govern like a Democrat. They even know Romney will never repeal Obamacare. Yet, they vote for him! GEESH!

They gave us Barry, Slick Willie, Jimmy, LBJ and the Kennedys. What's one more matinee idol? Can you imagine if Robert A. Heinlien's voting rules in Starship Troopers applied here?

The GOP are making sure the right person goes against BOzo. No, it’s not the right person for the good of the country but that’s the whole point. Global governance was never going to happen with a strong US so it had to be brought down from the inside. The finish line is within sight of these devils.
