Upton was on The Rocker Morning Show on WRKR-FM 107.7 today, and amid jesting with the hosts, talked about what's coming up in Washington D.C. for him and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which he chairs.
At the end of the interview, co-host Mike McKelly told Upton, I dont consider you a career politician. Upton responded, "I'm not."
Upton, 58, served his first year in Congress in 1987 and has been in office for 25 years. Before that, he worked on the staff for U.S. Rep. David Stockman from 1976 to 1980 and was in the Office of Management and Budget from 1981 to 1985.

Jack Hoogendyk issued a press release this morning announcing he has received endorsements from three Republican state legislators: State Reps. David Agema of Grandville and Tom Hooker of Byron Center, and Sen. Jack Brandenburg, of Harrison Township.
Fred Upton is the epitome of an Establishment RINO, while Jack Hoogendyk is a grass roots conservative through and through. Also, they’re running in a safely Republican district, so whoever wins the primary will be the next Congressman.
Michigan conservatives need to make this primary a top priority.
He’s had a long “non-career”. Time to find something else to do, Fred.
Oh, please say “Hi” to Kate from me.
Go Jack Hoog...er...
Go Jack!!!
I believe so. First thing I think of whenever he mentioned.
Please, Michigan, kick his @$$ to the curb so we can have our cheap and safe lightbulbs again.
Yes, he voted to ban incandescent bulbs. A dim bulb in more ways than one.
Jack’s a good guy.
She’s a lot better looking than her uncle. LOL.
Who is this stupid tool McKelly?
I didn’t know the lowdown on this primary, though I saw Jack speak at the Santorum rally in Kalamazoo and liked him. Now that I know Upton is a lightbulb Nazi, it’s a no-brainer. Thanks for the info.
