Former state Rep. Luke Messer has won the Republican nomination for eastern Indiana's 6th District seat that GOP Rep. Mike Pence is giving up to run for governor.

Messer will face Democrat Bradley Bookout of Yorktown in November's election in the Republican-leaning district.

Messer is a former executive director of the state Republican Party who heads School Choice Indiana, which lobbied in support of the state's new private school voucher law.

He finished second to Rep. Dan Burton two years ago in the 5th District's Republican primary, but his Shelbyville home was placed in the 6th District when lawmakers redrew district lines.

Messer defeated Columbus real estate investor Travis Hankins and six others on the GOP ballot.

Bookout is a former Delaware County Council member.

Travis Hankins was the best candidate running, but he lost the primary to Luke Messer. But it’s not a disaster. Messer is a good conservative who supports life and school choice and I’d be willing to support him if I lived in that district.

That’s good to hear. I’m in Pence’s district and we’ve been spoiled!

Spot on. Pence should win the governorship in a landslide. I hope he sticks to his conservative values and I hate to see him leave the national stage. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as President one day.

I really hope your prediction comes true!

I hated to lose him, too. Indiana is moving in the right direction and I think he’s the man to keep that momentum going. I’m also hoping it’s a step towards a presidential run later on.

It would just be greedy of me to want to clone him as our Rep, governor and President, wouldn’t it? Lol

McIntosh is not from Indianapolis, the population center. IMHO, that has something to do with it.

Brooks is going to squeak out a win over McIntosh.

She says she’s pro-life and pro-gun.

but was McIntosh really your conservative favorite in that race?

Brooks won by 1000.
