May 19 is when the convention will choose a candidate. All of them seem acceptable, as far as I can tell. Erika Harold seems to be the most conservative. Tim Johnson’s move seems to have been designed to get Jerry Clarke, his Chief of Staff, nominated. I don’t approve of denying primary voters the right to choose a successor. However, that doesn’t automatically mean that Clark knew about it.
Input from Illinois Freepers is especially appreciated.
Not “automatically,” but didn’t Clarke create a campaign committee a week or two prior to Johnson’s unexpected retirement? Or am I thinking of another Johnson aide?
I hope Erika Harold gets the nomination—she’d be a conservative superstar in Congress, and could go on to bigger and better things.
